Hi,

looking for suggestions on a gaming monitor. Thinking of basically :

27"
1440p
Min 144Hz refresh rate
HDR
Budget £350(ish)

Read plenty of online reviews - however a lot of the top end monitors are straying into £500 and higher territory so not willing to stretch that far.

Pondering this as a decent option : https://www.scan.co.uk/products/27-benq-ex2780q-mo...

Although it's plugging into an Nvidia RTX so the freesync option is worthless - not sure how big a deal freesync / gsync is though....?

TIA

Samsung Odyssey G5 for about £280...if you don't mind a VA panel.

I wouldn't worry about HDR content at all.

If you want HDR buy a "gaming TV" instead.
Like an LG OLED

HDR400 monitors etc like most of the ones in that price range HDR is awful.

Look on RTINGS they have reviews on most and are very in depth.

As with some of the other monitors mentioned, it's not 'proper' HDR, it will be HDR10/HDR400...which are both very basic HDR specs (and debatable whether they're 'proper' HDR at all) - and even VESA certification label doesn't mean it's good, just that it has been certified to meet those lower level.

But then, even the sub-50" LG OLEDs only get 600-700 nits vs the 700-800 nits of the larger screens.

You'd need HDR10+ or HDR1000 for professional HDR levels.

But as it's for gaming rather the professional video/graphic work, then I'd not be too worried wink

Thanks all for your sage advice - there was a time I'd have spent weeks poring over specs and such like....but as I get older the less patience I have for such things. I'll ditch the HDR requirement, seems like a waste at this price point.

Solid performer. Had one since June and can't really fault it.

I mostly play warzone with nvidia filters on but it was costing me a good 30-40fps. Eventually spent a bit of time dialling in the monitor settings and now I have warzone looking just as good without the fps penalty. Something i couldn't do on my previous TN panel.
