I have bought this:
https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B089CRTDDY/r...

And part of the instructions has surprised me:
I have bought these partly for an item that has little use (remote control for a gas fire) and partly for a couple of projects that invole some small LED lighting strips which will have a fair amount of use.

I am surprised by the high 5400mWh capacity, especially as the battery housing include the charging electronics and a micro USB socket.

I'm not at all familiar with LiPo batteries, but the blurb says the best way to get the best out of them, is to carry out 3 charge/recharge cycles when they are new, and then put them into regular use. This sounds like NiCad advice to me; do LiPo batteries need this type of attention, or is the manufacturer just trying to get the users to do the post manufacture testing?

Interesting terminology.

Your batteries are quoted in Watt Hours. Normally a battery is rated in Amp Hours which is a different thing altogether. The blurb states fast charge requires 2A which is rather a lot via a micro usb connector and more than most chargers will cope with.

Doh! 9V 600mAh then - thank you.

I had noticed the 2A charge rate, but as most of mine are 2.5A max They do charge OK. I have a big powerbank which is the best output, but it gets warm in the process.

Sounds like the internal electronics prevent the battery from being flat lined and also do a conditioning charge, which is quite cool in design. Just don't them with a hammer or drop something heavy on them.

The mWh thing started with the 1.5 volt cells, where multiplying your mAh by voltage yielded a plausible capacity figure that suggest these were excellent cells - when in reality they were distinctly average.

I can recommend the regular EBL li-ion cells - no USB port, 8.4 volts and 800 mAh. I’ve got a load of them in my security PIR sensors, they last as well as alkaline….
