Been asked to source some cheap handsets for a charity project, seems Android ones are the way to go.

As a long time Apple user can someone give me some suggestions on what is worth buying second hand? These phones will primarily be used for Whatsapp/Skype calls so don’t need to be bang up to date specs wise. Just cheap and cheerful

On cex you can get pixel 4 for £99 they'll do everything you want plus still getting updates.

They'll buy them from you at that price, they certainly don't sell them for that price, nor is the Pixel 3 that price.

Right you are it's the pixel 2 for sub £100.

I'd still get one if that's the price limit

How long do you need the phones to last for?

I wouldn't be touching second hand with a barge pole when you can get a basic Motorola from John Lewis for less than £100, brand new.

Some idea of how many you need, how long they need to last, and of course budget would be useful.

Agree with the above however, although second hand and Chinese brands might seem superficially attractive it is hard to see past the Motorola G-series for exceptional value backed by a big name.

I picked up a very lightly used, Google refurbed, Pixel 3 to replace my 2xl with dodgy charge port recently for £115 delivered - superb phones but the batteries will be shot in old 2's by now, Motorola G line for OP's proposed need would be a far safer bet.

New Moto G or the even cheaper Moto E series (£79.99). New phones with up to date software.

Bought a couple of Redmi Note 9's earlier this year, very impressed.

Need to check for offers, but currently they have :

Redmi Note 9A for £59

Redmi Note 9 for £119
https://www.mi.com/uk/redmi-note-9/

The battery life on our Note 9's is very good indeed.

Apologies, should have included more info in the original post.

Budget is cheap as possible, ideally sub £50. Happy to buy second hand. Phones will primarily be used for Whatsapp/videocalls so nothing too intensive
