Hi,
Has anyone been tempted by this device?
Digital watches have grown on me and Fitbit is getting a bit old now.
I'm an android user.
I been thinking about one of those myself lately. I've a Gear S3, and wondering if I want a Galaxy 4 watch, but would it be that much of a difference ?Has anyone been tempted by this device?

Bear in mind that the blood pressure and ECG feature will only work if you have a Samsung phone. They don't really make that clear on their advertising.
Having bought the watch 3, I am now familiar with this issue as I don't have a Samsung phone and the internet is full of disgruntled customers.
There is a workaround, downloading custom (unofficial) apps, certificates, etc but it's not straightforward and doesn't work for everyone. Other than that, the 3 is a great watch and I suspect the 4 will also be great.

Whats the proprietory technology only on Galaxy then? Or is it just tied to the Samsung app itself?Having bought the watch 3, I am now familiar with this issue as I don't have a Samsung phone and the internet is full of disgruntled customers.

It's all linked to Samsung health monitor app. Some info here: https://www.forbes.com/sites/andrewwilliams/2021/0...I managed to side load SH monitor and an APK for the ECG function but can't get blood pressure to work. I bought mine direct from Samsung UK and spoke to their customer service (once I realised this was an issue) who confirmed a year ago that BP will work on non Samsung phones and the problem must be with my phone (a pixel 5). He lied.

Everything else works fine - heart rate, blood oxygen, steps, sleep etc all sync nicely with Samsung health.
Daughters Active2 died last month, 2months before the end of her warranty.
So she pre-ordered the new Watch4 (not classic) and it arrived 2 days before launch day. She love it and its a good step up from her 2. It looks far nicer and sleeker too.
They can't fix her A2 so offered us one of the big 3 LTE's as a replacement, which we have accepted but i can't decide to sell on or keep and i have a slightly different concept smart watch ordered via Kickstarter.

There's also an app called Health Sync which I use to sync the Samsung data over to Google Fit, not sure if that covers the new metrics or not though.
I'm quite tempted to get one of these, though I'm still a little sceptical as my last Android watch was so crap to the point of being unusable. It was so slow it would end up locking itself every time you did anything, then if you turned the lock off it wouldn't let you use Google Pay. Used to take best part of 5 minutes to go for a run just getting bluetooth earbuds connected, music playing and strava loaded.
I presume that's fine now, but can someone feedback whether Google Pay is available? I'm not setting up Samsung Pay.
I think my main reticence is that I ended up getting a Gear Fit Pro 2 and really want them to make that with Wear OS. The screen is perfect, it's a tall rectangle, so it's basically endless scroll rather than a series of round bubbles as you go for more detail. That with a wider screen and NFC would be better I think.

I have seen a review that says you can use Google Pay, so as I use it, I will see when mine arrives.I'm quite tempted to get one of these, though I'm still a little sceptical as my last Android watch was so crap to the point of being unusable. The big issue for a lot of people is not being able to use the ECG or blood pressure things unless you have a Samsung phone. And also (not that it really matters here), you can't use the BP thing in the US.

I got my Watch 4 this morning and I have installed Google Pay on it. You have to add a PIN (like Samsung Pay). Also you can't remap the Samsung Pay button to be Google Pay, but you can remap the double press Home app to by Google Pay. And you can change the default NFC payment method to Google Pay as well, but I'm not sure what that does exactly since you have to select which one you want anyway.Update: Once you have enabled a pin, you can't do anything with the watch until you enter the PIN. So that's useless then.

Can you not use Smart Lock or whatever it's called to stop the phone from locking while you're wearing it and it's connected to your phone?Pay needs to be convenient for me, otherwise I'll just use my phone as that won't lock itself in my pocket, then I don't need a new watch at all......
Smartlock will keep your phone unlocked if it detects the watch, but not the other way round.
However, I've just checked the settings again on the watch and it says once it is unlocked, it will stay unlocked whilst you continue to wear it.
So yesterday I install Google pay, added the PIN and later took it off and when I came to use it again I had to enter the PIN before it would do anything. Maybe I was a bit too quick to until it if it does stay unlocked ?

What's the storage like on it? I have the original and I tried using Spotify and the fitness app and it just didn't have the grunt to run both, it frequently hung and the headphones cut out, it was disappointing as you could sync a couple of playlists and run to music and not take your phone which was super.. I might get the new one....
I big plus is Tizen being binned so I can use Google Pay rather that POS Samsung Pay which I used on the phone but if you did that, you had to install in on your phone which proceeded to ask you every nanosecond if you wanted to set Samsung Pay to the default pay app so I sacked that off entirely.
OT.......Does anyone lese have issues using Googlepay in some stores? Tesco's for example never works with Googlepay on my phone, not just one, but every one I've been to.....

is the battery any better than the s3
No, worse. I have had the 4 for a couple of weeks now and the battery life is much worse that the 3. I have similar settings as well but it uses over 55% per day when my 3 only used about 25% per day.Gassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

te it comes with of course.
