I'm after an 8-inch-ish Android tablet with a GPS receiver. I'm finding it hard to filter by GPS when searching and even the manufacturer specs are not clear sometimes. Can I assume that if it takes a sim-card, it will have GPS functionality, like iPads do? Are there tablets that do take sim-cards and don't do GPS or vice-a-versa?

I want one with a fairly stock version of Android, with a reasonable period of security updates. My current tablet to be replaced is a Samsung Galaxy Tab Active which is burdened with loads of unnecessary Samsung junk that made it sluggish even when new and now it is horrible to use.

Suggestion and advice would be gratefully received.

Bear in mind that early mobile phones didn't have GPS. The SIM card doesn't automatically mean GPS.

Thanks, I'm not really looking for a budget one, or does a smalller screen equal budget? I just don't have the space for a full size screen.

The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite seems ideal except for its size. I might have to see if I can re-arrange the dash and get a new mount to fit a 10 inch.

Vankyo MatrixPad S8 has GPS. £74.99 on Amazon at the moment with an extra 20% off if you tick the box. I've got one, pretty happy with it.

Samsung S6 Lite has GPS even in the non-wifi version and it’s on sale at the minute, so if all else fails I’ll go with that.

No scope for double DIN unit really without significant work.

Not all Android head units are double din.

Some single din units have flip out screens, others (with larger screens) don't flip out but are "out" all the time ... one on Amazon with a 10" screen.

I know, but that brings with it the problem of the screen obscuring some of the controls. I have pretty good set up now, and it’s handy to remove the tablet and use it for other things.
