I picked up two identical monitors from my office in the week both Samsung and have spent the last hour building my set up with this stand

https://www.amazon.co.uk/HUANUO-Monitor-Rotatable-...

All looks good and quite pleased with how it looks as never had dual screen before BUT the monitor quality doesn't match each other.

I have reset the default settings on the brightness etc to factory so expected them to dish out an identical picture.

Screen 1 is brighter
Screen 2 is a bit more yellowy

I thought it was because the set up which uses a startech.com usb docking station has one on HDMI and one VGA connection. I assumed it was this that was affecting picture clarity and quality so I swopped monitors and its the monitor that's the problem as now Screen 1 is yellowy so its not the connection.

It's really annoying. Neither monitor is new so is one ready for the bin? Any one know what I can do to rectify this?

Thanks

If you swapped the connections and the ‘yellowy’ tint moved from screen 2 to screen 1 then that doesn’t seem like a screen fault.
I would think it is a connection fault or maybe just the difference in image quality via different connection types.

No I swapped monitors as all the leads are routed through the stand so it was quicker to change monitors. I assumed it would be VGA connection that was worse but its not the case, the quality is exactly the same so it is definitely the monitor.

How old are the monitors? CCFL backlit (i.e. ones that get warm/hot) typically get yellower and dimmer with more use.

It may be worth hunting through the office for a closer matched pair?

Not sure you can see it here, i just tested both monitors with each connection and its definitely the monitor on the right that doesn't have the same clarity.

In short I can do email on the left one but feel like I need my glasses on to do emails on the right one?

Don't know how old they are but would have been in constant use.

I think its this, so new monitors needed, I think its best to get two new monitors so they will be the same picture quality,

The image is too compressed to be able to judge - the Samsung logo looks blurred. I don't think you're helping matters by having them at such an angle to each other though. Ageing is unlikely to make a screen blurry though.

No chance the laptop has 2 digital outputs to at least eliminate VGA and presumably DisplayLink ?

I have connected both monitors to vga and to hdmi and its made no difference. Blurry maybe a strong word its just not super clear, think HD versus Non HD on the TV.

I have also done hdmi straight from the laptop to the monito and its the same

Now its been on a while its a bit more obvious, had my 13 year old look at it and the screen is more yellow on the left hand side and whiter on the right but they are different enough to see one isn't right.

Sorry I don't know about displaylink?

Unfortunately it's likely to be the monitor and there's not a whole lot you can do about it.

You can buy brand new and hope for the best or you can buy certified colour calibrated monitors which are more expensive but guaranteed to match.

I've got 4x 24 inch HP monitors all bought at different times and none of them match biggrin

I have/had these problems.

- regarding blurry etc - check ALL the display settings. I found I had scaling on one, and not the other, and also search in Win 10 for "Adjust ClearType text"

There are so many settings tucked away and it is easy to set things for one monitor and not the other.

Regarding colours - I have 2 x HannsG 2k monitors and the never match. I have to delve into the RGB settings on the monitor menus and tweak them to get close enough, but one is always more "yellow"

Wow 4 screens and non match, that would annoy me big time!

I factory reset both monitors so I think it’s just knackered so will source another and try.

Thanks all for helping.

Just because it's the same model number doesn't guarantee its the same LCD panel. I've got two Dell screens which on paper are identical but which use two different panels with two different ideas about what a white LED backlight should look like - one has a definitely cooler tint than the other (or is it that the other has a definitely warmer tint than the former...)

But also 4 monitors photographed from a central position, meaning each are being viewed from slightly different angles, so there's always going to be a colour/tint shift.
