iPhone battery
Discussion
My 4 year old iPhone X battery seems to drain during the day so when it indicate it had dropped below 80% and showed up 'Service' I thought I'd get a few more months out of it and put a new battery in it. Other than the battery it was working perfectly. Left it in Monday morning and continued to use an ancient SE that morning, this is a shop that's well reviewed and they told me it would be done in an hour. I'd backed up and wiped it for security reasons.
I popped in later that afternoon checked it switch on and headed home. Cost me £50 and the receipt said 'premium' battery so expected a decent non Apple battery at least. Used it yesterday and it drained like before and still coming up service.
Have I been sold a pup or do I need to reset something? . I've emailed them and waiting for a reply. I don't particularly want them monkeying around with it again, paid with my card so no issues getting the money back if they play silly beggars.

Only Apple or their approved agents can replace a battery without getting the ‘service’ message.
It doesn’t mean the new battery is crap, but the vast majority of EBay/Amazon batteries are absolute garbage, bordering on dangerous.
I’d say your guy is probably using decent replacement batteries, something like the IFixIt range and he’s given you a decent response.
Personally I’d only take mine back to Apple now, certainly since the 7 came along with IP 67 and the battery service messages.
Before the 7 I was changing all my friends and families iPhone batteries.

I am not sure when Apple started coding all hardware in the iPhone, it may have started with the X. Certainly with 11, 12 and particularly the 13, you can't change anything (screen, battery, lenses, logic board) without virtually bricking the phone. Even with genuine Apple parts. Face ID won't work, portrait mode won't work etc etc. Apple want the income from repairs.
Unless the 'Right to Repair' lobby gains traction, it will put the 3rd party repair businesses out of action.

Spent the last few days speaking to Apple as the one has had no end of problems since I received it back from getting the battery changed third party.
The speakers hasn't worked, no volume on YouTube or on calls, the touch freezes and it needs a forced reset every hour. I rely on my phone for work and have been using a old 5c for the last week.
I have wiped and reintalled backup from iCloud three times and still the issue remains. Seems this £50 battery change is going to cost me nearly £500 to replace with an iPhone of the same spec, storage and condition.

I would never get the battery changed anywhere other than Apple. For future reference, it's only £69 for you to get an iPhone battery replaced there (£49 for older models). Of course now it's been diddled with by a non-authorised repairer you may be screwed
My only experience of having them repair something was the screen on wife's iPhone8. Sent the phone on Monday and had it back on Thursday. The amount they charged was slightly higher than stated on the website as they charged VAT at 21% based on The Netherlands. I queried this and they refunded the whole lot. So I can't complain about that!

I had my iPhone X battery repaired at one of the many repair shops you see on shopping malls. They screwed it up like the OPs. Battery not charging properly, screen not right and lots of OS faults. It doesn’t mean the new battery is crap, but the vast majority of EBay/Amazon batteries are absolute garbage, bordering on dangerous.

Took it to another one that I had used previous not hoping for much, the guy basically ripped into the other repairer saying not many people know how to do a battery swap properly on the newer models. I took it with a pinch of salt, but gave him a chance because it was basically a brick.
He replaced the battery and screen for £100 and got it working back to normal. The battery app is even showing 100%. I was very impressed with his effort and told him so, he looked very smug!
If I was the OP I would take it somewhere else and ask if it can be fixed. Someone with more experience could probably get it working.

This is the reply I got from them, they want me to leave it back into them, not sure if I should they could say anything and then try and charge me more for changing speaks, haptic sensor etc and then hold my phone ransom if I refuse to pay.
Looking for a bit of advice to be honest. I paid by card and got a receipt, this is the reply I got.

) Once phone is bricked taking phone to non apple cannot make things worse
Take phone back to non apple dealer and see if he can fix, get refund if unable to fix.
Then take phone to apple and see if they can fix it.
Then always take phoen to apple in future because obviously the risk isnt worth the reward

Another X owned here who got what I consider a perfect battery change from Apple for peanuts as per other posters. It comes with a 3 month warranty and was done perfectly. The thing is running iOS15.1 beta 3 and works perfectly, albeit in some processes (not many) it is slow.
That has given the perfect form phone a new lease of life
I would not do it any other way because Apple pricing on this is actually pretty decent.

.... at the moment....!I like Apple stuff and have had their phones since the first model. But I really do not like their strategy to put independent repair companies out of business. Not so long ago you could have your phone perfectly repaired by an independent - but now, it's impossible.
The current Apple repair pricing is manageable, but ultimately Apple will be offering replacements not repairs.

Price was never really an issue for a battery swap, Apple have a 6-8 day turnaround time, this place was 1 hour from drop off to collection. That has given the perfect form phone a new lease of life

I mean the phone even with a new battery is worth very little spares or repair on eBay, taking it back and giving them a chance to put it right is ok, if they find they can't fix it then we will deal with that if it comes to that. My X was was mint, no marks and with the increased storage worth somewhere around the £350 mark.
here's the reply.
