Going to get a SSD drive to download all my old files and pictures off my old windows 10 PC before it gets decommissioned. I’ll then use it as a backup kept in a fireproof safe, just in case an Apple network engineer doesn’t know how to configure BGP…..
Are there any issues with accessing the drive from an iPad, do I need to format with any particular file system?

FAT32 or ExFAT (iOS15 should allow NTFS too)
or as pointed out, some Cloud platform.

Consider also using ES File Explorer or similar 3rd party tool as well as Files.
