I need a solution to a remote camera I need to set up.

The FiL passed recently. The house is now empty and 150 miles away. There is no phone or WiFi..

I need to access a remote camera solution so I can check the house is secure.

There is electricity but no comms.

What device can I buy where I can initiate a remote camera to see the house? Something with a slot for a phone sim I guess.

I don’t want it on all the time, just when I connect.

Thanks in advance.

Reolink do a couple that take a 4G SIM card for their own network connection.

Some of the DIY burglar alarms can just take a SIM card too, and call/text when something happens, or lets you set/clear the alarm via text if someone else needs to visit. I think the current version of what I've used before is called ERA Homeguard now. It'd be more peace of mind to me than a camera would be.

I had a very similar requirement last year.

I used a TP Link 4G MiFI I already had and stuck in a Three 24mth 24 GB SIM (£40), then got a couple of cheap cameras to work on the wifi network created by the MiFi.

I got these cameras, for < £25 they're excellent. Very easy to setup and were rock solid for the 12 mths I used them for.

I also added a cheap alarm system, similar to this:

I put a GiffGaff PAYG SIM into it, can access it remotely to set/disarm. If there is an activation it will call up to 8 numbers to advise of the activation .... can then reset or disarm as desired.

As with the cheap cameras above, all worked perfectly for me.
