looking for a sim free android phone , would like to use argos

up to around £200 seems to be a choice of mostly samsung or motorola's

any suggestions which one and why

mostly used for browsing internet and holiday snaps , no games /video , long battery life would be a bonus

Having had a series of Moto phones and recently switching to a Samsung I feel that you tend to get a slightly better spec for the money with Moto.

Looking at the Argos website I would spend your £200 on a Moto g50. Newest and highest spec Moto for the money. (Similar spec to the Samsung a32 which is £50 more).

I have a G8 power. Battery is good as expected but camera not as good as my previous phone, a Samsung S8. Overall I'm happy with it though.

G8and G9 are older generation phones so will lose software update sooner than the latest g50. Depends how long you intend to keep it for.

Settings and then sounds and then notifications (from memory).
You can choose what happens when you get a call, when you get a message and for system sounds. By default they seem to be set annoyingly, although it is not as bad as the Samsung I recently switched to. The default notification settings on that seem to be aimed at a teenager.

I usually go for the samsung A/J range and seem to do me till they get broken on site. Usually under budget and up to the task. Missus has an a50 like I did(till i broke it on site) and has no complaints smile

I've just bought a new phone, I went for the 4GB/128GB Motorola Moto G30. £150 from Amazon not Argos though. - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08X4HCD7V/ref...

https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=107...

It's got all I need.

I only ever look at Motorola or Google for as little manufacturer installed bloatware as possible.

If you buy a phone from Argos checdk the box isn't sealed with labels whish say "Opened & security checked by Argos" if they do you have bought a customer return. You will never know why it was returned.

The problem with the Motorolla G30 and G50 is the screen resolution is only 720 x 1600

I personally would have bought this instead as it is has a 6.67 inch AMOLED with 2400x1080 resolution.

I was going to ask if that is really a problem as the screen on my old G6 is perfectly adequate, but then I looked at the specs and the old dog nails it! hehe

ETA: fk a duck, the old Moto is even better than an iPhone 11!

My old 5.5" LG G3 is 1440 x 2560, 538 ppi density and if it wasn't now going too slow to move all those pixels around I would still be using it, it's screen stats beats out the current greatest of the Jesus phones that only manage 458 ppi density. Yet put my new 269 ppi density G30 next to my LG and you can't tell the difference plus with less pixels to push around performance and battery life is ridiculously better. I liken the push for pixels a few years ago to CPUs 10+ years ago when everyone was pushing for higher single core speed with 6 and 7 Ghz CPUs predicted, until they realised more cores was the way to go. On a phone you don't need really high ppi screens. 1440 x 2560 is the resolution of the 27" monitor I am typing this on, on a 5.5" screen it's a waste.

I had an Honor 10 Lite which served me well until I lost it. I think it was £140.

When I went back to Tesco they were out of stock, so I ended up with a Huawei P Smart which was £160 - identical phone with a slightly lower spec camera. It even came in the same shade of metallic blue gradient.

Both are fast, responsive, have access to all Google services. I'm paying £9 per month for unlimited calls and texts, and a data limit I never go near.
