Moving WooCommerce Site
Discussion
Hi All,
I have a friend who apprached me about being ripped off by her website company (which may have some element of truth).
They designed her a WP website (which I admit looks good) however page speed scores are 4 and 20 for mobile & desktop respectively. It's running over 34 plugins, none of which have been updated and it's coming up to renewal time, and it just a sea of red recommendations from google.
They were charged 4K for the website intially, and 100gbp per month recurring for hosting. They are now wanting an extra 500gbp per month for "SEO Optimization".
The website brings in maybe 10-20 sales a month.
So a couple of things:
Luckily (per my advise) they didn't transfer the domain over to the web company, so still have control of the domain.
She has full admin access to WP so downloading a backup should be achievable?
I have no experience of website that use woocommerce or similar, so migration to a different hosting company is not something I would want to take on personally.
Does anyone have a recommendation on the best way forward and potential web company that could handle this?
TIA

not a fan of woocommerce and word press for exactly the reasons you mention…I have a friend who apprached me about being ripped off by her website company (which may have some element of truth).

simple answer for the business would be to move the content over to Shopify, cost a one off fee for set up, though if they are in any way computer proficient they can do most of it themselves and it is easier to use then wordpress, then c. 20-30 dollars a month, the seo will automatically improve, and most of what they need to do outside the site, such as selling on facebook can be driven by shopify… those prices are high and they are on outdated tech.
if you want more info / a company that can help, pop me a pm, we do websites for quite a few folks on here…
I've recently setup an e-commerce site using WooCommerce and have found that Updraftplus is great at backups/migrations etc. I wanted to have a copy of the site on my laptop to tinker with stuff in dev whilst leaving the production site well alone. Early days as yet, but it works well by essentially doing a backup/restore but then updates the relevant URLs so the site still works on my laptop. The personal edition is £50 a year for two sites, and whilst it's probably possible to do this yourself with your own automation, paying for this shortcut works for me.
