Hi all,

Hopefully the right area to ask...

I'm working on a vege farm in North Queensland and wanted to try and implement some improvements to the tracking and logging of produce.

At the moment, each box is numbered and then manually entered into a database for its size, weight and type of produce along with the date picked and packed. Then, when it is loaded onto a truck for shipment, each box is again tracked manually via noting the numbers and then loaded into a separate spreadsheet to track volume shipped.

My question is, could a QR code be scanned at time of picking allowing the above info to be entered and then once loaded onto a truck scanned again allowing it to be cross referenced and matched up?

I think it'd streamline the logistical side hugely, especially as we ramp up production.

Any help appreciated.

yes, but you still enter data at the start, it will save time backend.

Do the boxes get returned?

No, they are sent onwards from the wholesaler to whatever markets they end up in.

I'm imagining some relatively simple inventory software matched to a QR generator would work? As you say, input the data at the start but for sending shipments, it'd make life a lot easier and custom reports could be done on demand to see useful info.

I'd have thought there might still be more and possibly cheaper kit around barcodes if it's just for tracking the box number, QR codes being 2D barcodes, ish.

But I'm not a hardware guy.

Smart phones can read QR codes, barcodes you usually need better scanners.

You could use RF if you were looking to scale, which is maybe something to think about, trying to standardise the ordering process.

Anyway thread would be best placed in business section.
