Iphone 13 Pro Max battery drain.....
Discussion
So, finally gave in and treated myself to one of these things 3 days ago . Smashing big phone but i am noticing that overnight the battery is dropping about 10 %.
In Battery usage stats the main culprit at 29% is "no mobile coverage". We dont have great signal in the house i get that, but my outgoing Iphone xr didnt drop battery % overnight anything like this ????
Any thoughts anyone ?
Cheers .

Android used to do this years and years ago
If it couldnt communicate with a cell tower it would continuously keep trying and trying which flattened the battery
Not a problem many people had except I worked in an environment with guaranteed zero mobile/wifi coverage and after a 10h shift my battery had had it. The solution a number of us chanced upon was switching them off or enabling aeroplane mode
During this time people with Apple phones were fine. And smug

Good luck

Yeah, i understand but what i dont understand is that none of my previous iphones suffered from this drain overnight........same house same everything. If it couldnt communicate with a cell tower it would continuously keep trying and trying which flattened the battery

Which network are you on?
If you're on wifi calling with EE or Vodafone (not sure about Three), you can enable aeroplane mode which cuts the cellular connection, but still allows wifi calling and wifi SMS to still work. Stops the phone from continually searching and trying to hang on to a weak signal. You just need to remember to disable aeroplane mode when you leave the house.
I too have noticed my iPhone 13 Pro Max (and the iPhone 12 Pro Max before it) behave differently on networks compared to previous iPhones I've had. Both drop down to 3G much more frequently than before. Are you on a 5G plan? Could be a weak 5G connection causing the continual searching and battery drain?

"When cell coverage is weak the phone increases its output power in an attempt to maintain a connection. A weak signal uses 10 times as much energy as the strongest signal, so it can drain a battery very fast if you are on a call, and it will still drain the battery when not on a call because the phone periodically reports its location to the network so an incoming call can find your phone. To further complicate things, if you periodically lose signal completely the phone sends a "where are you?" page to the network to reconnect. This is sent at full power. If there's no response it repeats the request periodically, with longer and longer waits between pages. However, if it reconnects and then loses the connection frequently, the pages are sent frequently without the longer waits, again draining the battery.
All cell phones work this way, including the iPhone. In the past all of this happened behind the scenes, so you didn't know about it other than the fact that your battery doesn't last as long in a weak signal area. With iOS 9.2 onward the Battery monitor now tells you about it. You will only see it if it uses more than 1% of your total battery usage.
Also, note that the battery display is a percentage of a percentage. That is, that 60% means 60% of the total battery usage over the past 24 hours, not 60% of the battery's capacity. So if your phone used 50% of the total battery capacity (the top bar display says 50%) that means that "no cell coverage" used 60% of 50%, which is (0.6 x 0.5) 30% of the total battery usage for the period."
What you could do is set up shortcuts to turn on mobile data when you go to sleep and back on when you wake. You could do this by setting up 'sleep' in the Health app, then adding two shortcuts - one to turn off mobile data when sleep starts, and one to turn if back on 'on waking'. Take you ten minutes to set up.
Worth a try maybe? Or you could do what I do, which is buy a wireless charger.
I have the older version of this one: https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/HPGA2B/A/bel... and it's brilliant.
PS maybe because of 5G using more power than the XR?

Yes on vodafone. It will be a 5G plan but i certainly dont have 5g near me !!. Try turning 5G off in the mobile data settings. It could be hunting for that?
Cheers , i did just that earlier. Will see how it goes tonight. Although it would also be trying to hunt for 5G during the day as well, which coupled with me actually using the device in the day would mean much more than a 10% drop during daytime, which isnt happening.....

Stop trying to apply logic Although it would also be trying to hunt for 5G during the day as well, which coupled with me actually using the device in the day would mean much more than a 10% drop during daytime, which isnt happening.....

I’ve got a Pro 13. Just checked my usage, no low signal battery shown in the breakdown. Must be a prime candidate in your issue.
Ok,just to update this . Last night i charged to 100% at beddy byes. 11pm in this case
Turned on Airplane mode but also w-fi and bluetooth turned back on.
At 7.30 am phone still at 100%.
So yeah, fair bit of battery drain on the biggest battery on any iphone simply trying to keep or look for a phone signal !!.

Just out of interest why don’t you just put it on charge overnight?
The battery manager sorts out when it needs to be charged based on when you get up, so the more often you charge that way the more accurate it gets.
Mine delays the start of charging till about 5am so its fully charged by 6am.

Yeah, might do this... especially as i now have a wireless charger beside the bed !!. Cheers .Just out of interest why don’t you just put it on charge overnight?
