My business sends about 100 SMS messages each day to field staff. The messages contain a fair bit of detail, job numbers etc, so are very fiddly and laborious to type.

I want a desktop solution so that these important bits of info can just be copy/pasted into outbound SMS messages.

I don't mind whether it requires a Bluetooth connection to the PC from our Ops mobile phone, or works via the SMS service provider using a virtual system to make it look like it comes from our central Operations phone number.

I also want to be able to create groups of employees, so that messages can be sent to specific teams as well as individuals.

Any recommendations?

Before we wander off to the realms of the SMS-As-A-Service cloud lot, have you considered WhatsApp? The desktop client seems ideally suited to the large chunks of text/group send usage you have described.

If not, what email system are you using, as I suspect email-to-sms might work?

Echo the Whatsapp comment, seems to be made for what you need.

Not all staff have smartphones, so we can't use WhatsApp.

I've used Twilio before and found it pretty good (albeit via their API for bespoke applications) but you can use it via their own software too:
