Just out of warranty MacBook repair
Discussion
My August 2019 all boxes ticked MacBook pro refused to charge this morning. This happened a few weeks ago, I took it into Apple who opened it up, unplugged the battery, and plugged it back in again which cleared the fault.
This time it didn't clear the fault and they want £660 for a new logic board for a fault that was first reported 30 days after the warranty ended.
Do I have a leg to stand on, has anyone had any luck with just out of warranty repairs with apple?

A new M1 Air will piss all over your MacBook all day long.

Try taking it back - and don't lose your s
t. Be nice

Well you can pursue it under the Sale of Goods act of course in that it didn’t last a “reasonable” time given its value, reputation etc etc

2019 MBP will be worth a reasonable amount of money. I wouldn’t roll over so easily and “just buy a M1 one” (from the same company that isn’t prepared to give you any goodwill on your existing one?)
I’d be tempted to try again at the Apple store, maybe mention that you don’t feel like it is “of satisfactory quality”, etc. If they still don’t budge then look at making a claim. This might help too: https://www.apple.com/uk/legal/statutory-warranty/...

How much is a new M1 air?A new M1 Air will piss all over your MacBook all day long.
My 2013 MBP is still going strong. Its my main laptop for putting together work reports/presentation, infact now with everyone been done online with apps like Prezi/Lucid charts I cannot see any need to upgrade/replace it any time soon.
When I had a GPU failure I sent it to these guys, £150 fix including postage. At some point it will need replacing but I'll hope to make it last 10 years.

I have a macbook pro. About 6 months out of warranty the screen died.
I took it to an apple store and they sent it away to be fixed free of charge.
The manager said the fact I purchased it at that apple store helped my case for good will. I don’t think they would have done it had I purchased it elsewhere.
Overall they turned a s
t situation into one where I will recommend apple to friends and continue to purchase from them.

You don’t want sale of goods act you want to claim under European consumer law and for goods being not of satisfactory quality. The fact that you presented your laptop to them and they fixed it before for the same problem is evidence that the fault was persisting which will be the main point you need to prove. You need to demonstrate that there was a defect with the laptop when you were sold it that has now become a fault.
I have successfully had a new phone and laptop thanks to this bit of legislation but for understandable commercial reasons they will make it a real pain for you to claim. If the store manager gives you a blanket no, ask to use a store phone to call customer services who will be able to progress the claim alongside the store.

I had problems with the retina screens on my mid-2014 Macbook Pro when I lived in France. First screen was replaced under warranty as I'd taken out the extended Apple Care but after about a 18 months the second screen failed completely and it was then out of warranty. The Apple dealer did not want to know and said that I'd broken it by picking it up by the lid which just was not true. I got nowhere after a few times back and forth with the supplier so called Apple European support in Dublin and gave them all the details of what went on. The problem got moved up the chain in Dublin and next thing I know a courier arrived to collect the laptop and within a week it was back with another brand new screen at no charge. I now have battery problems ( new battery in 2019 but now won't hold a charge).
