I’ve noticed on HUKD there haven’t been and decent OLED tv deals for a week or so - probably the retailers selling everything at rrp for a while to make the discounts look bigger

More seriously, with all the shortages going on black Friday could end up being carp.

I've got a Asus PCIe 4.0 add-in card waiting for 4 reasonably priced m.2 SSDs to come up!

Although I did post in another thread about what seemed a good deal on a Samsung C34J791WTR curved monitor for £530 (about £200 of their normal price) - as part of Amazon's Early Black Friday deals.

Edit: it looks like it's gone back up to a high price again...over £800...probably to be able to display a seemingly huge discount on proper Black Friday (cynical, moi?).

Would you believe I've connected up her old one this afternoon and it's stopped flickering...

What connection did you use to connect her to the monitor? Curious as to how this stopped the flickering. biglaugh

Wow, very good price that.

Bought my 47cm back in 2012 for £60 (which was discounted at the time!) and you know what.....it's still going strong 9 years later, despite not being under a cover for most of those years.

Possibly tempted by a new TV this year ''55 to 65'' in either Neo QLED (Samsung 2021 range) or OLED form. I have done a fair bit of looking over the last few months so I think I have a fairly good understanding of what I want/need. I also own a PS5.

Specs I want are
120Mhz refresh rate.
HDMI 2.1

Currently interested in a Samsung QE55QN85AATXXU or ''65'' version.
Or the LG OLED LB range.

The prices seem reasonable given their original costs but Currys seem to have gone first with Black Friday deals so I am wondering if other retailers will go lower closer to the time.

I'm impressed to see LG 65 OLED TVs going for £1300. Mine was £2k not two years ago and is utterly perfect.

Not sure of the exact internal differences but I'm fairly sure they all use teh same panel

https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-and-home-entertai...

£1300.

WHen I bought my "B" series I read up and all the "advancements" of the C series were down to image processing - all of which I always immediately turn off when I buy a TV - motion smoothing, enhancements, mpeg cleaning etc etc. It's all snake oil (unless you watch footy I guess? I dont' watch fast moving sports - movies are all flawless).

As you've said, the difference is the £1600 one is a 'mid-level' C1 and the £1300 one is an 'entry-level' A1 (G1 is the top-end).

Besides aesthetics (solid aluminium stand vs feet; bezel size) and software, some of the differences are:

Whether they matter / are worth it is up to the buyer.

I see.

Those differences might mean somtehing to a console player but as a TV and film watcher the only real difference is a slightly brighter image. Bearing in mind I've never wanted for more brightness on mine (HDR whites can be blinding) I'd say the £1300 is a mega bargain and the newer set has had "features" added to justify holding the higher end of the price market.

All depends what you are after of course. For me the high refresh rates and Geforce support mean zero. And all the signal processing, as I've mentioned is largely irrelivant. I can see why they do it of course, but at the end of the day, OLED panels are so good I think they struggle each year to add value of some sort to an already outstanding technology.

LED has made significant steps, mostly with fighting for better black levels with enhanced back lighting, and also smaller pixel spacing, but I can't help feeling with OLED they've kind of run into a wall :-)

Yes, definitely yes

No use paying for 'features' that you will never use!

HDTVTest (Vincent Teoh) on youtube is handy for checking value for money on OLEDs.
