Virgin Media Hub 5 is out if....
Discussion
If you're invited.
I am so yayy for me
After dong a bit of digging it seems that it's being introduced to lower tier customers on Hub 3 at this point.
It offers:
WiFi 6
Our Hub 5 uses WiFi 6, the latest generation of WiFi technology, to handle loads of devices at the same time. So you always get great coverage, fast speeds and smooth connections.
Powerful home WiFi
Virgin Media is home to the UK’s fastest widely available broadband.
And the more speed your Hub gets, the more your WiFi can do.
Strong signal for everyone at home
Small but powerful, our Hubs are made to handle our ultrafast broadband speeds and deliver WiFi to where you need it.
Built-in security
All our latest Hubs come with encryption and the latest security features as standard.
Made from 100% recycled plastic
We ask you to send our Hubs back to us so we can recycle them and help protect the planet.
Speed testing
Our Hub 5 uses technology from SamKnows to test the connection speed your Hub’s getting. Head over to samknows.com/realspeed for more info.
additionally 2.5 Gb WAN port and its not using whatever chipset the 3 & 4 did that caused latency in gaming.
Anyone got one yet?
I'd be interested to know the physical size as if its taller than the 3 I may need to move it somewhere else.
Regarding anything else, I'm going to be using it in Modem mode anyway, hoping the 2.5 Gb port is available on the modem side.

They offered me a Hub 5 to replace my Super Hub.
It was an straight forward self-deployment and the service was up and stable within 10 mins.
The wi-fi signal is improved, and a few parts of the house where the wi-fi coverage was poor is definitely better.
It has a few new feature (not really played with yet) such as the option for a separate SSID for guest wi-fi access.
The router also has pair of analogue phone ports. They don't appear to be enabled, but maybe this is in readiness for VM to offer a VoIP service.

Not a chance.....the Superhub was the worst performing router i've ever had the displeasure of using....it's now at the back of a cupboard serving as a modem whilst TP Link Deco's do the heavy lifting....and they come very highly recommended.
Similar to me but EERO setup instead.yeager2004 said:

You're lucky. I recently got offered the Superhub 4 (I'm on a Hub 3 which works great connected to Tenda WiFi mesh system. I've got Hive and FireTV connected via ethernet to Hub 3).It was an straight forward self-deployment and the service was up and stable within 10 mins.

Thought it would be a simple case of unconnecting Hub 3, reconnecting Hub 4. Called up Virgin to activate new Hub. (this wasn't mentioned in any of instructions etc). Even after a couple of hours, rebooting etc Internet was poor, spotty. FireTV said it had great signal yet Amazon Prime Home wasn't working and could barely stream 4k content.
Hive just couldn't connect either (I've got lots of Hive bulbs and Heating), Alexa was spotty.
Overall a really poor product. So I swapped back to Hub 3, contacted Virgin support and luckily managed to get it re-activated. Dodged a bullet there.
I guess old adage is: "if it ain't broke don't fix it"

Agreed - my Netgear Nighthawk does the real work with the Hub 3 (replaced a Super Hub) sitting in modem mode. Single extender in the spare room (mainly for the Ethernet port) covers the whole house.Jinx said:

Superhub already has guest facility? Think you can setup up 2 different guest SSIDs....

Using the ISP's router in modem mode, and buying your own router is probably always the best way.Thought it would be a simple case of unconnecting Hub 3, reconnecting Hub 4. I'm on the Hub 3 and had Virgin Media out as the speed over the last month or so had dropped to less than 40mb/s when I'm on 200mb/s. They said it was because I had 14 devices connected so it would drop out occasionally. Apparently VM only recommend 8-10 devices connected to Wifi and only guarantee 200mb/s in one room.
Anyway I'm back up to 200mb/s but the VM guy said half my devices were running at 2G when most could be running at 5G, didn't offer me any boosters but so far so good.
He changed all the cables in the box outside and also going from the wall into the hub

Sounds like a great reason to get a mesh network, and stick the hub into modem mode, I've got something like 29 things connected currently, with headroom for another 99 (32*4) I'm also on 200 Mbps with zero issues with anything dropping out.Anyway I'm back up to 200mb/s but the VM guy said half my devices were running at 2G when most could be running at 5G, didn't offer me any boosters but so far so good.

I seem to have been pretty lucky with Virgin Superhubs ... the various models I've used have all done about as good a job as you would expect a 'free' ISP-supplied home hub to do. ie. Light on management features and definitely not the greatest wifi - but not appallingly bad either.
In terms of providing a solid high-speed internet connection from Hub to ISP they were all decent. I know there are people who have had big problems though, usually with the WiFi. A workmate was about to junk his Virgin connection due to pathetic wifi performance but got some BT Whole Home discs on my recommendation and is now totally happy. ISP hubs by and large just do not do good wifi.

Agreed. The Superhub was absolutely crap, only surpassed by Virgins dire customer service (who tried to blame me for the s
t WiFi).New sky system installed and everything is massively better, and at half the cost.

Yes I'm with you, I had the original Shub 1 and then the 3, Wi-Fi performance aside, no issues at all, unless you live in a small home, any single point centrally located router will have some sort of Wi-Fi issue in the extremities, that's why Mesh units are so popular, you can just place units so you have full speed Wi-Fi everywhere on your property. In terms of providing a solid high-speed internet connection from Hub to ISP they were all decent. Anyhow.
I've placed the order for the 5 we'll see how it works out, I'll be using it in Modem Mode only so not expecting any issues. Just future proofing as my new PC & this now have 2.5 Gbps Ethernet so no future bottleneck there. (I'll likely need to change the deco m5's for something with Wi-Fi 6 and also 2.5 Gbps Ethernet ports and jobs a good un.

They can be pretty poor, they also can't differentiate Internet, Lan and WiFi when you call up
