I'm looking to get an old (80) relative in the US a keyboard/screen device so that we can chat/skype/email with him.

He currently has a Samsung/android mobile, but it has a tiny screen and keypad, which makes it just hard work for him to use.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the simplest, plug n play/preconfigured device that I can buy for him?

He currently uses gmail for email and facebook for chat.

iPad unless typing long emails is a must, in which case perhaps Chromebook instead of a separate keyboard for the iPad.

Basically anything except Windows.

Facetime on an iPad.
Easiest to use.
It took over an hour to teach my dad to "double click" a mouse (no, click it again... , but faster... don't move the mouse between clicks... etc.). But the iPad/Facetime was much easier.

Chromebook with a touchscreen. My mum (late 70's) wouldn't be without hers now, she uses it for everything, ordering online, Netflix, catchup TV etc.
