iPhone (pre13) sweet spot?
Discussion
I'm starting to look around as my Huawei P20 charging socket is a bit loose and can stop charging if the cable is nudged slightly in the wrong manner.
Is there a peak pre-13 version that balances features and cost?
Mobilephonesdirect have an offer of a 256GB 11 for the price of the 64GB on the Black Friday deals.

There is a ridiculous wait to get an iPhone 11. I advised my parents the same way: for most people the 11 is more than enough phone and it’s the most affordable non-SE option
They ordered 2 directly from Apple mid October. Still waiting for them to ship! All the networks were showing similar wait times too

Work just replaced my 11 Pro with a 13 Pro Max, and to be honest the 11 Pro was still absolutely nailing it after two years of heavy use, and if it was my money I wouldn't have felt any need to change it. Even the battery was still in good fettle.
Yes, the camera on the new one is better, but even when I swap back to the 11 Pro (it's my son's now) I don't notice it being any less slick. I think any A13-powered iPhone would be the same (normal 11, 2020 SE) so no need to go for the expense/weight of the Pro if you don't value the camera or better screen.

Why pre 13 exactly? A decent second hand 11 is a good deal or a new SE 2020 if you really want Touch ID and can put up with the lcd screen. The 12 is still a bit expensive second hand and new prices make no sense as only a small saving over the 13 but with half the storage and worse battery life.
If you can afford a 13 I’d go for that. Will last the longest and the 13 mini 128gb is good value relatively speaking. The screen is bigger than the se yet still easy use use one handed, fits in pockets and weights a lot less than many handsets have become in recent years.

My daughter wants a new phone for her birthday next month and I thought with the release of the 13 the price of the 12 would fall. Nope
iPhone 12 64GB = £679
iPhone 13 128GB = £779
Effectively the 13 128GB is only £50 more than the 12 128GB why would you buy the 12? So that puts me in a dilemma, a brand new 13 is just crazy for a 13 year old, but there is little point going for the 12 instead.
I guess with everything in such short supply they don't need to bother lowering the price.

Is the SE not an option? £439 for the 128GB. I might be very out of touch but a new 12 or 13 for a 13 year old seems crazy! So that puts me in a dilemma, a brand new 13 is just crazy for a 13 year old, but there is little point going for the 12 instead.

No, she currently has an 8 and wants a bigger phone. Annoyingly when I bought that phone she had a choice of an XR instead as it was almost the same price, but wanted the 8 as the XR was "too big"
I am very much of the "bigger is better" school of thought when it comes to phones and even the 12 seems small compared to my three year old £200 6.5 inch android.
My daughter is very lucky that I got given £1K of Love2Shop vouchers months ago through work so I will be buying it from Currys using those. At least it doesn't feel like real money that way and I have no other use for them.

Obviously it's bypassing the voucher route, but Apple refurb. You'd be very hard pressed to tell it was ever used.

Assuming you don't fancy using said vouchers for any other appliance changes!
