I've got an old core2duo era desktop collecting dust.
I've been given some Amazon vouchers so seriously considering picking up this kit
Components4All AMD Ryzen 3 2200G 3.5Ghz (Turbo 3.7Ghz) Quad Core CPU, ASUS Prime A320M-K Motherboard Pre-Built Bundle NO RAM https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B079YCGJFG/ref=cm_sw_r...
To give it a bit of a refresher. Cheaper gaming machine?
Graphics card appear to still be a total nightmare!

What games are you hoping to play and what is the min (recommended) spec for those games?

I'm not expecting cyberpunk 2077
Maybe a few older titles like Skyrim I guess or the 2016 doom. Let the lad play Minecraft that sort of thing.
In time I guess I'll add a graphics card but they would probably cost the same again at this point for something not much faster than the APu here. Would be my guess

Not much in it vs buying those components separately surely

Of those 3, 2016 DOOM has the highest requirements ( https://www.google.com/search?q=doom+2016+minimum+... ) which says it needs (or would like...) an HD 7870 'spec' GPU.

From Video Benchmarks, the HD 7870 has a 'score' of 4657. I can't find the 'score' for the 2200G processor, so I've picked the next nearest (but faster?) processor and also thrown in 2 others for comparison.
https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/compare/Radeon-...

I'm in the process of building a gaming machine with a 5700G processor (B550 MB and 16Gb 3600 CL16 RAM, 256Gb NVMe) with a view to adding a GPU as and when prices/availability allows, or buying second hand when one comes up. For a 'new' system (ie to inc case, psu but not SSD or OS) , it's coming in under £500 (purchases split between Amazon and eBuyer).

It was more that I have the voucher to use. Bundle seems a no brainer

Thanks for the hint on what to check. I hadn't considered using that site. Great idea.
But it looks like you are using the same thought process about graphics cards. Somewhat annoying currently

Yup, probably!!

Links, just in case!! CPU 5700G - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B091J3NYVF
B550M Motherboard - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B089TNX9YT

Rest of the bits were via eBuyer, so whatever PSU, memory, case etc you want. The APU comes with a cooler, so unless you need more cooling, just go with that.

Thanks that's a much better CPU. More expensive but a huge improvement
