Im going to be working from home to look after our new pooch. Anyway I will need a printer to connect to my laptop. And im thinking laser jet rather than ink jet. What are you guys using. Are you also USB/ethernet connection or wifi.

Thanks in advance.

I have a brother mono laser that I picked up for about £70 in Argos - it’s excellent as an occasional use home printer.

Toner is cheap too.

Have a word with your IT department first and foremost as (a) the drivers probably won't be installed in the build and (b) you probably won't have (and shouldn't have) the rights to install the drivers yourself

Have a look at hp printers with instant ink option. I find the subscription very good value for money.

Appreciate the responses and advice. Are you all using a wifi connection to the printer. Or are you hard wired ?

Just don't buy the cheapest HP one you can find. I did and it's one of the most hateful things I've ever used. Built of flimsy plastic, has a screen so small I can't read it, and a 'help' system which doesn't help in anyway at all.

And check with IT you can connect a printer. Lots of places don't like it as data sent for printing will often go through print servers which are not secure.

Just ask yourself if you really need one. I have a few friends that print everything and need to review documents as a hard copy and can't seem to move away from that, others don't touch paper and haven't needed to print for a decade, both sets doing the same job. Keeps the office tidier if you can avoid one.

My missus is addicted to printing stuff. For the last 10years she's been using a Samsung ML printer. I buy the cheapest third party toner cartridges I can off eBay and it it just keeps going and going .

I have an old Samsung colour laser C460 series, its also a scanner, copier. Its a wifi printer, comes with an app so you can print off your iPhone / iPad. We have only put cartridges in it 2 times in the 7 or so years we've had it. Nice thing with the laser is the ink doesn't dry out, can leave it sat there for months and not use it and it still works unlike inkjets.

We had a cheap brother black and white laser before the Samsung which was really cheap to run.

With most printers these days you either connect them with a network cab!e to your router, or, a WiFi base station if you have a mesh network, or, WiFi direct to the printer. The former being more practical if you want to put the printer in another room from where you work. You can of course usb direct if you don't mind having it next to your computer.

For relatively high volume printing with practically no maintenance a cheap later will do but make sure you can get a cheap toner supply. I.e. check you can buy clone toner on Amazon before you buy the printer. It makes a world of difference in running costs.

It's a bit extreme, but I bought an office clearance , serviced , Oki ES6410 colour laser. Duplex, 3 trays, for.... £60 off eBay. £60 delivered! It costs me £100 for all four toner cartridges and I get through them in about a year. I print a LOT mind you ;-) Branded toner costs more like £400 for all four!
