Buying Hire HD 10 or similar for Car Play from iPhone
Discussion
I've been thinking about getting a head unit to put Car Play in my old campervan (single DIN).
I've always had iphones/ipads and realise there is no carplay option with these - but I could use a Android device to do get carplay fairly cheaply - Fire HD 10s seem fairly cheap on Black Friday and it looks like these can be adapted to become true android devices and (presumably) run carplay - perhaps wirelessly?
Is this possible - do I need some sort of dongle into the USB-C? Any tips or recommendations welcome.
I'm thinking a tablet is actually a better option for us than a custom DIN unit as we can use it for other things and usually prop an ipad on the dash at the moment anyway to use Google Maps. Seems like Car Play on a tablet would be better (and quite cheap) option so may try it.
I use a 10" ipad now, so thinking of a Fire HD 10. It sits on top of the dash well so not worried about it being small - plus we'd likely use it for media too.
Fire 10HD is £80 on black friday, down from £150.
I think I'd need a dongle and a USB-USB-C adaptor as the video below (£30?) and need to load in some apps on the fire to make it work.

But I'm not entirely sure it is this simple and there don't seem to be loads of videos on youtube about this which is not reassuring that there is not some annoying snag which is why it is not more popular?
I will probably go for a 64Gb 10+ with wireless charging so it can also download a good number of media files etc. too.
I'd be interested in any direct experience - feels like there is a risk of needing a faffy set up each time - whereas I just want to jump in the van and it to work pretty much with minimal connection steps etc.

CarPlay is Apple only - and native to iOS
It can’t/wont work on an android device.
Android Auto will - but that’s quite different and what I assume is what you mean.
You can buy single din HUs that are CarPlay and AA workable - loads for very little on aliexpress etc..
Yes, that is what I have in mind - the video shows Carplay on andriod - I was just interested in any real experience of such a set up. It can’t/wont work on an android device.

I'm not really after a DIN unit anymore - the 8" Joying around £260 is an option but if it is a goer I'd rather get a 10" Fire HD & adaptor I think.
Apologies - I thought you meant running CP directly on the android, not with it being connected to an iPhone.
Would a generic Chinese tablet not be the best solution - it’d be cheaper than a fire and not throttled by Amazon, or are you planning on rooting the device to native android?
What about sound - how are you thinking of piping the sound throughout the vehicle?
