Home networking subnets - help please
Discussion
I'm just beyond the limits of my networking knowledge.
I have BT FTTP and until this week had a very simple setup, the BT Smart Hub 2 did everything; routing, WiFi etc.
DHCP configured to use 192.168.1.11 up to 192.168.1.253.
Router is 192.168.1.254.
Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.
A few devices were and will continue to be connected via ethernet.
HP OfficeJet Pro was connected wirelessly with a fixed IP 192.168.1.5.
This week I've added a Tenda MW12 mesh system.
Turned off WiFi on the Smart Hub.
Main Tenda node connects via ethernet to the Smart Hub. I can see it is assigned 192.168.1.244 via DHCP.
The Tenda is configured as below.
There doesn't appear to be any option to change its subnet from 255.255.255.0.

All the wireless devices can successfully reach the internet.
All the wired devices can still reach the internet.
Problems
I want both the wired and wireless devices to be able to use the printer.
I used to be able to use the your Phone app to control my phone from my ethernet connected laptop, it doesn't work anymore.
I'm assuming this is due to the different subnets and I think the answer is something to do with 255.255.0.0, but I'm not sure so I'm asking here

Does the tenda not allow dhcp pass through?
This would be where I would start, if HP use multicast to "discover" printers you'll never get it to work across a subnet boundary, and setting up a print server for this seems overkill. Try and get everything on the same subnet.QuartzDad said:
Many thanks. Swapped to Bridge Mode and everything is back with a 192.168.1.x address.

For anyone finding this thread in future, doing this does disable some of the Tenda's features:

Just to add the functions of the Tenda mesh stuff that are lost will all be available on the router though. Or at least they are on most routers. For anyone finding this thread in future, doing this does disable some of the Tenda's features:
The issue you experienced was a double Nat one, you had your existing hub functioning as a router and the tenda was also functioning as a router.
If you want to re enable the tenda functions then you need to put the hub into modem mode if possible and set the tenda back to pppoe you’ll also need to hardwire the devices to the tenda so would likely need a switch for this.
Also 255.255.255.0 is not a subnet it’s a subnet mask, 192.168.10/24 is a subnet with 254 address and a sn mask of 255.255.255.0
