Old person was equipped with a Simple phone (not a smart phone) which they could just about cope with. However they have now moved and there is no Phone signal form any provider. They do have WiFi available.

Is there such a thing as a simple Voice Over Internet phone ? A Smart phone or anything with more than the minimum buttons will be of no use. Ideally not one which requires the other end to share the same software, so one that can dial into and receive calls from the regular phone network. Oh and it will get lost, dropped, sat on splashed with tea etc. So needs to be robust or cheap or both.

Looked and expected to find lots of choice but found nothing.

I used to have a skype phone a few years ago - a simple screen small phone with a keypad like an old mobile, but only used wifi.

Not sure if they are still available though.

Do they not have a landline they could use?

A few more details would help. Is this device just for use around the house or if/when they go out? Do they have an internet connection?

If it's just for use at home & they do have an internet connection then maybe wi-fi calling could help.

Something like a Wifi phone (Grandstream WP810 for example) and a SIP account (sipgate, etc) would be dead simple. Connect to the Wifi and it should work....seems to get some mixed reviews....

Also a SIP client on a mobile phone would do the same but be slightly unfriendlier.

Finally both iOS and Android may do Wifi Calling.....depends on the carrier.

The Doro 7010 seems to do WiFi calling. Others from Doro may as well but you'll have to search hard as the website is rubbish.

Doro may be the sort of thing so will look at that, thankyou.

No land line or phone signal available, just WiFi They want to make and receive calls into the normal phone network. Have found some Andriod phones allow you to set “Use Internet for calls” but a smart phone would be too complex.

Bear in mind that their network provider will need to allow WiFi calling.

It gets muddy in Android as it often only works if the device was bought from the network originally.

There's a compatibility list here: https://www.4g.co.uk/news/ee-o2-three-and-vodafone...

Take a look here,
https://www.voipon.co.uk/wireless-ip-phones-c-148....

Quite a number of dect or WiFi phones but you’d need a sips provider and perhaps access to a Ethernet connection either of which shouldn’t be a major issue.

As others have mentioned, why can't they just use a landline phone? Plenty of options available for simple, easy to use, phones.

I suspect the person is older and has gone into a home or sheltered housing where there might be no chance for a traditional landline ....

Thank you for the suggestions so far. The links mostly show devices that work with a separate base station which presumably plugs in to the net somehow or things that are “Coming Soon”

To recap :-
Land Line is Not available, No mobile signal available, WiFi internet connection is available so we want a Simple to operate Voice Over Internet telephone (not smart phone) to make and receive calls into the normal phone network. The phone must connect via WiFi not a plug in base station.

What's confusing here is without a landline how's the wifi getting in? A dorro 7000h will do what you need I think.

Are you saying the Doro 7010 is not a suitable format phone? Do you know what WiFI calling is?

A friend put her Dad into a retirement home. They provided wifi free of charge, but wired internet and or a wired phone line were extra, and quite pricy.

So the wifi could well be delivered to the entire site/area/home/whatever, without any other services being immediately available.
