iPhone transfer fiasco

Hi, finally decided to upgrade my trusty iPhone 8 Plus to a iPhone 12 Pro.

Used the transfer system which I have used with previous iphones in the past. Unfortunately, the new phone got stuck on transferring data to iPhone for a few hours, so I restarted both devices.

Most infuriatingly, my old 8 will not restart correctly and is stuck on black screen with spinning circle.

I fear all my data is now lost?

Never used it with a laptop or paid for iCloud

Just don't know why data has been wiped in the first place?

If you don't want to risk further (any) data loss, then you may have to book a Genius Bar appointment with your local Apple Store (assuming you're not miles away from one of those).

It might just be that the old iPhone needs resetting (not wiping) before trying again, or it might be that it was simply taking a very long time to transfer over whatever method you'd selected to do the transfer.

Thanks chaps. After resisting throwing the iPhone across the room, the old phone finally powered on, everything there. iCloud backup in progress... Hopefully it won't crash on me again.

Are you sure out crashed? It can stay for a long time on one percentage - often well over an hour. I would leave it overnight before deciding it had 'crashed'.
