Budget?

DJI mini 2 is really good. Add DJI care if you think they will crash it.

Check the rules on registration and the drone code. Anything with a camera needs to be registered by an adult but a 12 year old can fly it once they do the free test and get their flyer id.

Just be aware, not meaning to put a damper on things, but it’s getting very difficult to find somewhere you can legally fly.

Some people are tempted to fly ‘illegally’’, not worth the risk IMHO as the CAA take breaches very seriously.

Basically, apart from keeping aware from property, roads, people etc you need permission to fly from the land owner.

Generally, parks are no go, same as playing fields, garden is not possible due to neighbours / other houses.
Even my local flying club doesn’t allow drones.

My drone physically will not fly in a no fly zone. It tells you that when you turn it on. Surprised this is not the standard and mine is around 3 years old.

No fly zones are different to where you can/cannot fly rules. E.g. a playing field is a fly zone unless you are within a certain distance of people and buildings. Local restrictions e.g. National Trust properties (not buildings but land)

The original Mavic Mini doesnt come under the CAA regs, does the 2nd version?

but its an excellent starter either way. limited collision protection, but just be careful.
next up would be the Mavic Air - better collision protection, but less fly time

Both under 250g so can fly (doesn’t mean you should) in residential etc. Just not over crowds or in no fly zones near airports and the like. Has a camera so you still have to register it. All UAVs come under CAA regs, these are in the A1 sub category so have the least restrictions.

The Air weighs more so can’t be flown in as many places. Will handle wind better though.

If it's a Mini 2 or similar you should apply for an Operator ID and Flyer ID although there are no doubt many not bothering.
