I need to update my phone, currently Samsung Note 9. Have been looking at OnePlus Pro which is available with a £200.00 discount on the official website, so £629 for 128GB or £729 for 256GB which seems a good deal to me but I've been reading a lot of negative stuff about the switch to Android 12 with the new Color OS, based on Oppo. My question is, as a would be first time OnePlus user, does that actually matter? My alternative is a Pixel 6 Pro 256GB at £949, £220 more. One thing to bear in mind is that I'm not a techy person so would not be delving into all the stuff and customisation that would be available, nice and simple required.

Thanks in advance for any advice or opinions from those more savvy than me.

I had a OnePlus 8 Pro, and prior to that a Pixel. I really liked the OnePlus but that was before they merged Color and Oxygen OS (Oxygen was a nice clean version of Android that got updates nice and quickly). From what I understand, they made a bit of a buggy mess of their Android 12 update and have now pulled it, but (again prior to the merge) they were generally quite quick and proactive with updates etc. so no doubt they will get it fixed.

Once I’ve finished dabbling with foldable phones (currently on a Samsung Z Flip 3 which I’m quite enjoying, although Samsung’s implementation of Android is not as good in my opinion) I am thinking of going back to Pixel. For the cleanest Android that is the first to update to any new version, you can’t really beat Google’s own.

I have a six month old Oneplus 9 Pro. 128gb version. Works perfectly on android 11 & have read that the Android 12 version update has been pulled.
I am quite happy with Android 11 until all the bugs have been sorted out.

Until recently I was a long term OnePlus fan having had their phones for several years now and upgraded every year.
I have just got rid of my OP9 pro as I hated the phone and thought that it was actually a step back from the 8 pro I had before.
My main complaint with the 9 was overheating issues especially if used in strong sunlight

I now have a Pixel 6 pro which I find a much better device

P6Pro every time, or the P6 if you prefer the form factor and don't need the telephoto lens. Increased OP prices, Color OS and the latest Pixels make the OP a difficult buy. All IMO of course.

Leaning towards Google, I think long term it may be the better way forward, I was just thinking that at £200.00 off the price, OP 9 Pro may have been a better deal, probably a false economy I guess.

If you are prepared to wait a bit, Google regularly drop the price of their phones (they did very soon after I bought my last Pixel! Wasn’t that long after release either.)

P*ssed off that I missed their Bose headphones deal but generally would never buy anything without prior knowledge or a test drive, that'll teach me!

I have been running a Oneplus 8t for the past year as my main device - and it's actually been superb. Warp charge is excellent (empty to full in 40 minutes) and battery life is also superb (I can get two days if necessary).

Bought from John Lewis for £445 with a 2 year warranty.

The only thing is the camera lets it down a little bit - coming from a Pixel 4XL the camera is definitely a step backwards, but good enough for everyday stuff.

I've got a Oneplus 9 Pro and before that I had a 7 Pro. For the money I don't think there is anything better at the moment.

I was going to go for the new iphone but couldn't cope with the weight and I don't like Samsungs version of android.

I've zero regrets so far, the battery is loads better than the 7 and charges in about 18 minutes! The screen is fantastic and I can't think what they could really improve on.

My only negatives are that the camera is good but not great and I miss the popup camera instead of the puch for the front camera. That's it though!

I'm no fanboy but I've had OP1, 2, 3T, 6 and now 9 Pro (12GB) and have also just received a 7 Pro as an insurance replacement for my broken 6.

Upgrading to Android 11 spoiled the 6 - too slow - but until then I'd had no reason to change... couldn't be bothered to downgrade to bit the bullet and bought a new one.

I tried various other phones and couldn't find anything else worth considering apart from the Duo 2 (a different proposition I admit) or the P6Pro which I ultimately discounted as a pal had issues with previous pixels.

I've had zero issues with the 9P so don't regret my choice.

I've got a 7T and was waiting on the 9T to come out around now on the usual release cycle but it looks like that's been dropped in favour of a new model in the spring.

The fact they've merged with Oppo worries me, the thing I liked most about OP was the very clean and simple OxygenOS and generally high phone spec for the money. Compared to the various Android variants the kids have had on Samsung, Huawei and Xaiomi phones it's in a different league, and roughly on par with the other halfs Pixel 5.

I think I'll wait for some proper reviews of the new OS on the new phone before I bite the bullet...

I had an 8 Pro for just over a year which was great until I broke it in a pretty big accident and now have a Pixel 6

TBH they are/were both great
Im a photo nerd and each took/takes great pics

Id have another Oneplus in a heartbeat but the Pixel was a better deal at the time I bought with Bose headphones

Cheers

Another vote for OnePlus here. I have the regular 9 128gb as I didn't need the extra features of the Pro. Coming from Pixel, then Pixel 3 I've been very satisfied with it so far. Battery life is just incredible and with the rapid charger I only seem to need to charge it for about 30 mins once every other day. The UI is as near to standard Android as makes no difference to me.

Considering the cost savings over most of the other flagship phones I think it's a bargain as well.

I flitted between brands before a good run with Huawei (P9, P20pro, P30pro - still think the P30 pro is just about the best phone I've had). I then treated myself to a OnePlus 8 pro and just couldn't get on with it (although lack the words or wisdom to explain why). I still have it as my work phone and mobile hotspot.

I then found myself in no-man's land for phones. Was waiting for the Honor 50 pro (although looks like pro never made it to the UK and the base model is mid-range).

Recently I bought a Pixel 6 (base not pro as rarely take photos with them) and it's ok. Wasn't flagship price and I wasn't expecting a flagship phone. It's perfectly acceptable but I think the days of being blown away by phone progress are gone for now.

Another vote for Oneplus, I purchased a 7T over 2 years ago, which is still in daily use and have had zero problems. I can still eek 2 days out the battery on light usage but its often daily as it's a business phone which I get a lot of calls on, checking email etc.

Considering upgrading to a 8 or 9 Pro, really don't see the point though. You can get a 7T or 7T Pro for peanuts now and they are still lighting fast phones with great features, decent camera and battery.

Bought a OnePlus 9 Pro at John Lewis yesterday, 256GB for £729, just seemed a good deal to me. Thanks for your thoughts.

That's a great deal, mine was £800 a few weeks ago

9 PRO is currently £589/£689 on Amazon.

Been watching and that's a very good price, but cant really justify spending that much at the moment to upgrade my 7 Pro as there is nothing really wrong with it.

That's a good price, although is the 128gb one, which I decided I'd fill.

To be honest, other than wireless charging and the awful auto back light on the 7 Pro the 9 isn't a massive upgrade. I don't even find the cameras that much better
