Hi all,
Considering replacing the Panasonic 42inch plasma purely because I'd like something a bit bigger.
Will be used mainly for virgin TV and the odd but if gaming PS4.
The SAMSUNG UE55AU7100KXXU 55" Smart 4K Ultra HD HDR LED TV seems a bargain at £450..
Is this a good TV or should I be looking at something else for around £450 please.
Seems too cheap as the Panasonic was around £1200 but this was 10 years ago.

Can’t help with that particular model but I’ve got a Samsung QE55Q80T (2020) QLED HDR 1500 4K Ultra HD Smart TV, 55 inch with TVPlus/Freesat HD which cost around £850 in May.
Had a £1300 Samsung before that was probably 8 years old.
New one is night and day better.
Edited to add - should probably ask mods to move to home cinema and hifi.

The Samsung UE is a budget set, hence the price. It’s an edge lit LCD.
What plasma do you have? What do you watch (sky Q/freeview/uhd Blu-ray? Do you use a games console?
1200 will get you an LG C1 (OLED), which is a fabulous set. 800 or so would get you a Samsung QE55Q90T (FALD LCD) or LG 55CX (OLED), I’ve got both - excellent TVs.

Thank you both.
I have a Panasonic TX-P42G20B.
We use virgin (not 4k ?) Amd netflix. Also have a PS4 connected up to it.
Not really wanting to spend £1000 but budge could be increased from £450 to £800 if its worthwhile
I bought a Samsung 55" Q80A last year (sale and deal thru work) and couldn't be more pleased with it bang for buck - QLED, HDR performance and 4K pic are excellent and so much better than 4 year old LG.I have a Panasonic TX-P42G20B.

Think you can get them for under £700 now in sales.
We went from a 55" Panasonic plasma to a similarly sized LG Nano-LED (55NANO866NA) for about 3 month, but ended up swapping it for an LG CX OLED (OLED55CX5LB) as we couldn't get used to the halo/ghosting effect in sharp contrast areas, or the banding on the picture on dark scenes.
I suppose if we'd have come from a older LED/LCD screen it might not have been as noticeable, or if we'd realised we needed FALD (and even then, who knows how many zones would be required to match the plasma), but I think we were spoiled by the plasma (nearly 10 years old when we passed it to a relative in late 2020).

Just going to chuck this in there.....
OLEDs are absolutely fine in room with lots of daylight. Yes, LEDs are brighter, but we are not talking about "dim" OLEDs. I have an LG 65" OLED and it is so bright when there is HDR content the whites can sear your eyes. Never once thought, "hmm - seems washed out in this sunlight".
I fear the fact thet backlit LEDs can be brighter has created a bit of a myth that OLEDs are for darker rooms.
To the OP - OLED will prob push you well out of your budget - if you purely want more size, and are not worried about perfect true blacks (which you'll currently have with your Plasma) then some form of LED will prob be a startling improvement over your old Panny, in all regards except backs levels and consequently, contrast.
FYI - I have OLED bacause I'm a big movie watcher, and want the very best. No amount of LED trickery is as good as OLED, as ultimately you are always back illuminating black pixels , which results in grey.

OP For the £800 budget you have, shop around for a 55" oled.
If you've got (or know someone with) a Costco card, OP probably won't get anything as good as the LG OLED55CX5LB for £870.Alternatively, you can get it for £899 from Richer Sounds.
You can go down to the A or B range to save maybe £50, but you'll be missing out on
- a higher refresh rate on the A range (120hz vs 60hz)
- faster processor (A9 vs A7) which helps with both the OS/smart features and the picture processing)
- louder speakers (40w vs 20w, but moot if you have a soundbar).

We have that exact Samsung TV, it’s very good and the UI works well. Use it for Sky, Plex etc all good. It needed better sound so we got a Sonos Beam and surrounds, no complaints now
Ordered. Arrives Tuesday, thank you Thanks to the others that have replied, it is appreciated. When the kids are a bit older and don't treat the TV as a touchscreen ill get something a bit better haha.

Great, let me know how you get on
Really impressed with it given the cost.
Connected the Sonos up using the optical lead however when I adjust the volume via remote it doesn't have the volume numbers.. also can't seem to disable the in built speakers.
Other than that, all good so far
