I'm looking at new phones and in particular the Galaxy S21s. There's the current offer of claiming a "free" Chromebook.

Are they fairly limited? Worth paying a small extra monthly premium for on the phone?

Cheers.

We're a household which uses only Chromebooks and android devices, so yes they are quite capable - with the correct spec for their expected usage, and the correct setup re. services and web apps etc

A near-freebie has the potential to be a low-cost low-spec model though, with accompanying performance and usability.
But even base models are fine for browsing, webmail and media streaming etc

Share the model if you can.

  • I will caveat the above with the knowledge that Samsung build quality and durability on any of their laptops (incl. Chromebooks) isn't great in my opinion. We have a Samsung Chromebook in the house and won't be buying another when time comes for replacement. Their laptops still aren't up to the same level as their phones or tablets.

Looks like a Chromebook 4 Titan Grey. Seems quite basic to be honest.

I've had Chromebooks as secondary devices for years. Currently I have 2 Lenovo Duets which are fantastic - there is the keyboard for typing long emails, or it converts to a tablet. I have one in the back of each car so that wherever I go, I don't need to pack my bigger more expensive laptop and can get online immediately at a StarF*cks, Costa, Services etc. And if the car gets broken into or stolen, I think I paid £179, which is about 1/6th of the price of my home laptop.

Chromebooks have improved massively with Google Play Apps and improvements to many of the Word/Excel equivalents. Many schools now eschew Windows and Apple and issue Chromebooks. The amount of times I've had computer issues with video calls and been able to get back online in a minute by opening my Chromebook.

The only downside is that is can be a little more technical to get things to work, such as connecting to printers.

True, basic enough. Temper expectations, but it's be fine for light duties.
It's only a Celeron N4000 and a 1366x768 display, so don't expect too much from it, but it'll perform all the basics just fine.
