Height adjustable desks
Discussion
They keep getting mentioned in the Home Workstation thread, so there must be lots of people on here with electrically adjustable desks.
I'd like to buy all on one as don't really want to cut my own tops, or carry a big slap of hardwood up 3 flights of stairs.
My brother in law has an Ikea one, but reckons the top isn't very good and has crushed a bit where he has a monitor clamp on it, although there seem to be multiple tops available. To get memory functions looks to mean the Uppsel at about £450.
I like the look of the Jarvis with the bamboo top, but not sure how tough the bamboo would be so maybe laminate would be better? At 180x80 (same size as the Ikea one), they're over £700, but to be fair the £600 120mm one is probably big enough.
Autonomous AI's Smartdesk Core come out at a similar price
Loads showing up on Amazon but mainly frames with no top.
I think at the moment the Jarvis Bamboo is winning, but is there anything else I should be looking at?

I put my Flexispot E8 base together the other day. It was a Black Friday purchase. The quality and the finish are quite a bit better than I expected to be honest and it was also easier to put together than some of the reviews would have you believe.
I bought a massive second hand coffee table which had a solid Sheesham top. Not the last word in refinement but I liked the idea of a solid wood desktop and this route was actually cheaper than buying a new engineered board surface. Since doing this I have seen solid Oak dining tables in need of TLC going very cheaply too. Okay it's a day chopping it up and finishing it but still...
EDIT: Ah;

I have a conset desk. Lots of different top widths etc. and the shop I ordered it from delivered it and assembled it in my place.
I’m really happy with it. It was one of the few that went really low.
TBH, I just set it in a single position, however it made a huge difference to comfort to have the desk set at the exact height I need.
The better half has back problems so half stands and half sits.
It’s great having the adjustability.
Hope you are getting monitor arms and a decent chair too, if you haven’t already. Makes a huge difference.
Get yourself down to an ergonomic furniture shop, maybe sit in a few? I got a RH400 chair, can sit 18 hours in it and have no issues with aches etc. Of course YMMV, seeing how everyone is built differently. The RH300 suited the physique of the better half, so she got one of those instead.

Do monitor arms make much difference? My monitor's got a decent stand and the top is at about eye level which I believe is about where it should be. Do people find to need to adjust the monitor height relative to the table when you change between sitting and standing? Also currently have a single monitor but would like to get a second one at some point so don't want to buy an arm just yet,
Already got a decent chair as work let me take one home when we first started WFH in the pandemic, and the Mrs is looking at the Ikea Marcus which seems to get good reviews.
Sadly can't look in shops at the moment as they're all still closed for the next couple of weeks here, the Mrs is keen to get a desk ASAP. We got the keys for our new house on Monday and she starts her new job next Monday.

Monitor arms make a huge difference, especially clearing up space under the monitor for papers and what not.
I use two monitors, if I only need one that day, I can push the other monitor up and away, giving myself more room. If I need to look at a lot of small columns on an excel spreadsheet, I can pull the monitor closer, and push it away again when I’m done.
I can adjust both monitors in every direction in 3 dimensions, rotate them, move them if I need to show someone something without adjusting my position, just move the monitor.
I tried to use my second monitor on a stand for a while, got really frustrated with it because I got used to manipulating the first monitors exact position effortlessly and I couldn’t work in my default position with the laptop slipped just under the monitor (the stand was in the way).
If you try it, you won’t want to go back.
One of the biggest principles of ergonomic working is that the equipment adjusts to you and your needs, not vice versa.

I use the ikea standing desk but with the thinner solid top not the crushable thicker ones. It’s been brilliant, had it 4 years now and it’s never had an issue.
Monitor arms are mounted on the back with one holding a 39” widescreen Samsung monitor and the other holding a tray for my MacBook, teh ability to put stuff under the monitor and laptop and effectively increasing desk space is amazing.
I also use a large keyboard/mouse mat that covers a large portion of the desk, i find this a lot more comfortable and I don’t worry about the optical mouse not working or keyboard marking the top etc.

To be honest I quite like the idea of getting a big table from a charity shop and cutting the top to size, but I don't have a circular saw, the shops are all closed here until at least the middle of the month, and I have a bad back
I also bought Flexispot legs, in my case EQ5, but also in a sale (they seem to always have something on offer) but instead of a table top I put a door on mine. We had one sat in the barn from when we renovated a few years ago. Chopped about 20cm off the end where it had got a bit damp, took the metal work off and painted it. Works brilliantly, the door handle hole is just right for most of my cables. Didn't need a circular saw and doors are lighter in my experience as it's a sandwich construction.

Get the solid top, and also place a piece of wood on top and on the bottom of the desk to clamp to and spread the load.I ended up going with the Fully Jarvis one in the end, put it together last night and it seems really stable.
Next question, does anyone use an under desk mount for thier PC like this

I was planning to sit the PC on the desk, but these seems like a decent idea
