My son bought God of War for the PC yesterday and then found it was unplayable on his GTX1050 Ti, so I lent him my GTX1650 whilst we find a replacement. However, looking around it would appear the 1650/1660 are still the only available options without spending the best part of £500. The 1650s are being sold for circa £260 (which is twice what I paid in June 2020). Are there any better options available or is it a case of looking on eBay and risking the chancers on FB?

Sorry, but the 'great GPU shafting' is still ongoing - my RTX3070 that was £450 when I ordered my PC in October 2019 is currently about £750 from the same PC builder/system integrator. An RTX3060 is £600, and an RTX2060 is £450.

(of course, these prices only apply if you're an existing customer looking to upgrade...but then you could sell your old GPU at a profit too)

BTW, what resolution/settings is your son trying to play on? I'm playing it at 1440p and am get 140fps+ on ultra with a 3080Ti*...but also seeing utilisation and power usage spikes of 99% and 350w, so have limited it to 100fps to keep it around 250w.

* yes, the 3080Ti is overkill for my current monitor, but I'm still procrastinating over choice of 4K or ultrawide double-1440p monitor!

GTX 1080, beats a 2060 on pure gaming (obvs not RT or DLSS). Has a low hash rate and high power so the cryptos don't want them.

Ebay prices £300 - £360. Any more and you get into 2060 territory (£380-£420 2nd hand as you can get them £450 new) and then a 2060 with DLSS will perform better.

A GTX 1070 Ti, slightly less performance to a 1080 but usually the same price on Ebay would be the next choice.

On his card (1050 Ti) even at low settings within the game and his native monitor resolution (2560x1440 irrc) it was unplayable. On my 1650 he can play at original settings and native monitor resolution and it's OK. Looking at the spread between second hand and new I think I'll probably go for a new RTX2060 because it will cost me 20% less wink and it looks like I'll be able to get around £100 for the 1050.

Thanks for the help.

So, looking at what's available on e-buyer for the 2060 there isn't much spread between the 6GB and 12GB cards, feels like a bit of a no-brainer to go for the 12GB cards. More VRAM is better?

Not worth seeing how it is at 1980x1080?

Might as well pick up a PS5 to play it on instead of getting just a 2060 at that price!

It would appear that more is definitely better but only around 4FPS so in this case the £40-£50 jump to the 12GB simply isnt worth it as a gamer.

Some graphics cards dropped on very rip off but I'm sick of looking and have an account so 12 months interest free.

Getting hold of graphics cards at the minute is a nightmare! It took me almost exactly a year to get hold of my RTX3060Ti at retail (I refuse to pay the scalpers prices), I had to buy it with a power supply and liquid cooling thing, neither of which I need so stuck straight on eBay, but the GPU itself is £325. I got a 1660 Super last Jan as an interim measure as it was the only one I could get hold of, again, without paying silly money, and now that I no longer need it it’s on eBay too with bids over what I paid for it a year ago brand new! Absolute madness!

I could have sold the 3060Ti the day I received it for double what I paid for it, but I actually want it and I can confirm God of War on Ultra settings is magnificent!

My tip (what I did) was go directly on Asus store and set up a stock alert. May take a while but at least you won’t be paying over the odds for an outdated card.

The 3060 is 499 but still good value really, 3 years warranty. Yes can buy cheaper but not everyone can spend all day waiting for drops.

Good value new for current high level gen, direct from the manufacturer.

Asus TUF Gaming GeForce RTX™ 3070 Ti - £722 + PSU and 240mm AIO.

Sell the PSU (£40) and AIO (£60)if you don't want them and you have a 3070 Ti that has cost you maybe just £620. In these GPU times a deal.

Ended up buying the 2060 from Scan that was linked earlier in the thread. Scan is literally a 15-minute drive for me and I also wanted to play the game so FOMO kicked in. I have my 1650 super back in my PC now and I have to say at 1920x1080 God of War looks and plays superb even in original display settings. I'll take a look at what I'm missing out on later when my son gets home.

It would be an excellent deal if you could actually buy it at that price. Asus are trolling. Try and add it to your car smile

Pfft you've wasted your money. You don't even need a graphics card to play it.

Just sold my Red Devil version for £525 (not on eBay so no hefty fees!) as I managed to get an Nvidia 3080 on Scan thanks to a telegram alert. So cost to change was less than £150. Realise I could have stuck it straight on eBay for £1000+ but I'm not a knob.
