This may be a bit of a weird one but there's an unofficial competition going-on with some of my colleagues and friends to show the most interesting gadgetry behind us during video conferences, and I need some more inspiration.

Currently I have a number of audio spectrum analysers mounted in a rack flight case (that bloody Techmoan guy on YouTube has a lot to answer for laugh).

Also, I'm building a twin-screen (small 7" 1080p screens) rack-mountable Raspberry Pi which I'll just project some scrolling crap from geektyper. The Raspberry Pi has genuine purpose - but I'll use it for this nonsense during calls.

I quite fancy an Apollo DSKY simulator but building one is beyond me. I've seen some that actually display the launch data from one of the Apollo missions. That'd be cool but I couldn't build one and there isn't a commercial one available for the number of £££ I'm prepared to throw at it ($750 for a fully assembled one).

I thought about a robot of some description but I am looking for "effortlessly impressive" rather that something than looks like a toy.

Having just derided toys, my friend has a 3D printer and Big Trak behind him, complete with the trailer. He originally introduced the Big Trak from off screen as it delivered a cup of coffee to him. Another friend has a (huge) remote controllable telescope, a colleague has a 24-track mixing desk and reel-to-reel tape machine (I'd love one of those), and the father of a friend (we still do an online family quiz every two weeks) moves rooms from week to week, alternating between a room with a spectacular scalextric set up and his loft where he's building a trainset "scene" which will likely win this daft competition when complete.

Any suggestions? The more knobs, dials, screens, LEDs and any physical movement, the better (i.e. not photos or pictures).

An oscilloscope and a couple of MIDI pad controllers for flashing buttons.

Hah, love it. I must admit I've spent a bit of time on aliexpress looking at spectrum analysers too after watching the latest techmoan video!

Tindie might be a good place to explore. Lots of weird gadgetry stuff. RGB lighting, clocks, robot stuff etc etc

For example: https://www.tindie.com/products/subsystems/mars-cl...

Ooh, I've got a scope. I'll have to send a suitable signal through it. Nice one.

Techmoan has a lot to answer for. laugh

That Tindie site has an Apollo DSKY for a much more reasonable $250. I might be tempted. Oh dammit. I am.
