Looking for some advice on getting my gaming rig to go a bit better. Currently an Acer TC-605 mobo with 12GB RAM, i7-3440 CPU, lots of storage & a 1070 graphics card.
Specifically Im trying to find out what extra RAM I can shove in. I need to open her up to put an SSD in to replace my failed 3TB drive, and want to put 32GB of DDR4 in, but a quick google seems to suggest 16GB is the max:
https://uk.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/acer...
https://www.mrmemory.co.uk/memory-ram-upgrades/ace...
https://www.kingstonmemoryshop.co.uk/desktop/acer/...
So am I st outta luck or is there a workaround?
I am a bit confused how I got 12 BGB in there with 2 slots, wasnt aware of 6 or 12 GB sticks!

Probably an 8 and a 4, if so cheap option is a matching 8 to get 16 in total.

You'd probably be able to get a processor a couple of generations newer pretty cheap too as that's probably underperforming compared to the graphics card

As above, computers prefer identical RAM quantities in their DIMMS, so two 8GB sticks should give you a noticeable bump.
Also make sure you're getting the fastest MHz RAM your mobo supports.

It depends what you want to do really. First is getting an ssd. You could also install ram in 2x8 sticks.

Thats the plan.I got the SSD as an Xmas pressie from my son, need to buy the right RAM now as I only want to open it up once.
If I find out the max CPU I can use hen I might get that at the same time(but not tell the wife!)

Doing a search on that motherboard, it looks like it'll only support DDR3 memory not DDR4 also CPU wise it's socket 1150 so will take a series 4 Intel processor.

Something doesn't add up though. The OP says the current CPU is a 3 series i7. 3 series and 4 series CPUs are different socket sizes.

OP, any chance the CPU is a i7-4770 or similar?

If so, about the only upgrade worth considering is 4 GB to 8 GB to give a total of 16, but anything after that is new CPU, new motherboard and new RAM, and leave the GPU for the moment as prices/supply are still challenging

A 4th gen i7 isn't a terrible CPU - if you're going inside the case to add RAM/SSD, it would be well worthwhile checking the heatsink is clean. If that is clogged by dust you could be costing yourself some performance.

Or you could upgrade the whole system from the infamous auction site. When someone buys a whole system and removes the gpu.
