Is there a way to include a reminder (or announcement) in an Alexa routine?

I want to be able to wake my TV from the Fire Stick at a set time and then issue a reminder on it. I can do both separately, but haven't found a way to combine them.

For example:
  • I can create a routine to wake the TV at a set time.
  • I can create a reminder to be issued at a set time on the Fire Stick.
How can I create one routine that will wake the TV then issue the reminder (at the chosen time)?

My workaround currently is to time the routine to wake the TV one minute ahead of the reminder, but this means that each reminder created needs an associated routine (and the time of the routine needs to be changed when the reminder timing is changed).

I'll answer my own question having done some further experimentation. nerdbiggrin

Create a routine that is triggered at the desired time.
The routine contains two actions:
  • power on the Fire TV stick
  • a customised action in the form "Alexa, remind me to <whatever it is> in a minute"
Set the routine to be run from the Fire TV stick.

The delay to the reminder (a minute in this example) provides time for the Fire TV stick and TV to awake from standby. Alexa actually says "OK, I'll set a reminder in a minute" but this isn't heard because the TV hasn't powered up yet.

Works fine. thumbup
