Website punctuation problem
Discussion
I've just put a website up that we've written on frontpage (www.hereandthereinafrica.co.uk) but some of the punctuation (ie " ' - ) appears as a small box on our laptop or a ? on our PC.
It's been written on frontpage 2000, and viewed in windows explorer. The bizarre thing is that both computers are running the same software package:confused:

it's to do with character set's - easiest way I found of fixing the problem was to use the ascii character number in the html.
Another way to resolve the issue would be to copy all the text from FrontPage to something like WordPad and then copy it back to FP. What that does it give it the basic, generic style & encoding and it might just work.

We've done it in the default font
(And how do I find out ascii character numbers?)

Default font & character set are two different things AFAIK. I had major trouble with my site trying to get £ on and that was the answer I found.
& pound (without the space!) is all you need to do for £
its 'proper form' to use that so i'm told!

You need to add a trailing ; :
& + pound + ; = £
Try adding a character set meta tag to your html:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
That I'm certain will sort you.
Also, should you need a contact in Johannesburg, South Africa, please drop me a PM & I will gladly send you my cell number in case you need it whilst here...
Ciao

Thanks, we have <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"> at the moment, presumably I should just replace that?

That's a very kind offer, YHM.
Or you would do, but you don't have an email link in your profile
