On myW7 machine we have Outlook 2010, which I have kept running just for mail. However in the past few days, sending mail has been sketchy. It keeps popping up the password box. BT has helped me "fix" it and made it worse.

Perhaps this is time to set up Outlook on my W10 machine. But when I look online the price seems to vary wildly. Are these scams?

Can anyone point me to a safe source for it please? I really only need Outlook, I think.

Why, because Free?

Also, any ideas why Outlook 2010 and BT mail aren't working together. I have to keep hitting "send" and about every 12 stabs it sends.

BT didn't know the answer.

I think most email clients struggle to play nicely with BT Mail at some point - let alone a legacy unsupported version of Outlook. I'd just use BT webmail.

It's a good Outlook alternative. If it's a single email account then yes it's free to use.

If you're prepared to consider things other than Outlook, is it worth trying the Mail client bundled with Windows 10 ?

I’ve considered this. Looks a bit pony though.

About the same time as outlook started struggling with BT the OWA on my phone became flakey too. Wonder if it is connected.

I've still got a couple of old BT email addresses set up on Thunderbird along with a bunch of hotmail and gmail accounts. The BT ones often seem flaky one day, and will work fine the next.

I used this place for a Visio licence/key & it's worked just fine:
https://softwarebase.uk/office-2019

Either buy some flavour of Office or they have Outlook 2019 for £30:

Use Thunderbird, works well and it's free.

Had it briefly yesterday. I'd ideally like mail, calendar and contacts in a format that may be fairly futureproof.

I say this every time but I'd also consider migrating from a BT email address.

Too many tales of internet providers deciding they don't want to be email providers and all of a sudden either no email address or a fiver a month for a basic email account etc.

Not the question you asked I know but something to consider.

We’ve a number of domains and have options where mail is concerned. However the bt connect default one that came with the broadband always seems to work.

Well, I say that… in the past few weeks something is going on and, as per my OP, Outlook can only send mail one attempt in about 12.

It works okay with thunderbird, but Outlook 2010 not so much. BT is blaming Outlook, but I am not sure that the chap dealing with it was 100% on the ball.

Trade off is it makes it harder/more expensive to look at changing ISP ever.

Agreed, but over the past 25 years BT has mostly been okay. Even when we used to own a business selling competitor products to BT we always used BT products ourselves.

I don’t like them and they are expensive, but historically we have not needed to worry about their products working.

Thunderbird has been around for years , it's easy to export and import your emails etc if you decide to move. Give it a try for a few weeks and see how you get on.

Also agree with others, get yourself some Gmail addresses and move away from BT addresses.

I'm using Outlook 2010, and it works flawlessly for me.

I have 8 x accounts set up for different businesses / personal emails. Using 3 x different providers and a Gmail and Mail.com account. No issues.
