Need to get my milling table exactly flat.both in X and Y axis How accurate are the apps of levels etc and do they need calibrating prior to use.Or any suggestion which one is best?

Not trying to be obtuse, but the phone app will tell you if the phone is approximately horizontal, not whether the table it is lying on is or isn't flat. I'd expect flatness to be significantly more important than being accurately horizontal. So long as the cutting head is in the same plane as the table, does it matter if they are a bit off the horizontal?

In the normal course of events i would agree with you. I have 'trammed' the head and the cutting is as near to 90 degrees to the table as makes no difference with the angle square.
The problem comes when i will be doing split axleboxes for the loco. It would be nice to know the trable is 100% level then i just need to get a level reading on the axleboxes when cutting.
Still getting a +/_ 0.2 dgree error either the X axis is 0 and the y is off, or v.v. I think there is a plastic substance that can be compressed. . I would put this under each corner and adjust the four mounting bolts. Trouble is i haven't a clue what it is called or even exists!!!
Shimming each corner, as i have been doing loses the reading on the other three.
Will stick a post in GG to see if anyone knows of it

silly question - is the side of the phone actually straight? haven't you got buttons on either side of that phone, it will never naturally lie flat

I added this app to my S8 before I realised the phone edges aren't flat. Neither is the back.

I suppose you could make a jig...
