My Windows 10 PC (not used for a good while before last week) has started coming up with this menu upon startup, never used to. Still boots up if I select the correct (drive?) To boot. Just annoying that this always comes up.

Any ideas?

I'd guess that the battery used to power the bios-setting backup has failed.

Usually one of those little silver disk things, but check your motherboard's manual

You might need to go into the Bios and set the boot device as the "Default Boot device". It may have forgotten / reset.

Could be the battery of course. I've not had to replace one in all my career working in IT - doesn't mean it isn't that though.

when you go into the CMOS settings at this point, what time is it?

if the time is correct, there is something odd. If the time is wrong, your CMOS battery is flat. I have this on a 3rd gen X1 Carbon I have, irony is that a 2007 x61 is fine.....

It’s the little battery losing the memory.

They usually last years.

Your CMOS battery needs replaced. It’ll be a CR2032 coin cell battery on your motherboard. 10 second job to replace.

Basically your PC has forgotten its BIOS configuration as the CMOS battery is flat so the BIOS settings aren’t being retained when powered off.

Replace the CMOS battery, enter BIOS to set date/time and device boot order etc.
