Since I appear to be on chat with an Amazon rep who is giving me the very distinct impression they have never come across this before, I thought I'd check the PH hive mind!

Scenario: elderly relative at home alone.
Show8 in lounge downstairs.
We have a Show5 to put upstairs.

Ideally, we would like to be able to call one or the other - we use "drop in on Granny" - although we are okay if both were to "light up" - she will either be upstairs or downstairs!

Can it be done?
I have tried factory resetting the Show5, re-adding it....no dice, it appears but now if we call her, it ONLY calls the Show5

I'm beginning to think it cannot be done

Can you drop in on the other device via the alexa app?

I have successfully managed to do this across our 3 show devices at home.

In the house (on the same account/network), I think that is fine....but we call from our house (separate account), and it only drops in on one device.
Now 40 minutes into chatting with Amazon....escalated to a supervisor....they have just told me "You can do drop in between the two devices registered in the same account", which to me sounds like we cannot drop in to both devices from our separate account.....which they appear to be confirming, although they are dancing around the topic by suggesting group calls...

Bit frustrating really - ought to be simples, eh!

?

I believe drop-in needs to be enabled per device as well, have you enabled it on both devices?

Ahh, that link is talking about ones in YOUR house - "it gave Echo devices a new purpose as an intercom system."
You cannot drop in on all devices in someone else's house.

Bit pants really!! hey ho

Can you add them both to your own account i.e. Deregister them from her account?

Probably the closest answer....although we are only one of several relatives who call her. We will set a new Amazon account up, & register one with that.....*should* work!

I am following this with interest. My parents had two and took one to their house in France, where it would be really useful. They kept the other one at home. You could never choose which one to drop in on, and it seemed to fluctuate randomly. I didn't ever call Amazon though. Should have done.

They were all labelled different things.

Chatting with Amazon support is utterly soul destroying!
Long & the short is that I don't *think* you can call a person and have ALL their Alexa devices 'ring'....nor can you define the devices with different names to let you call "granny upstairs" or "granny downstairs" !

First call went 25 minutes before I convinced the person they clearly didn't know whether this could be done, & we could not afford to be the guinea pig....second person failed to help.
Later, the next chat lasted almost an hour with 3 different people.....& after one last Show reboot, the bloody thing refused to offer any configuration screen rolleyes
Will leave it overnight and try again.....they pointed me to https://alexa.amazon.co.uk/spa/index.html?#new-oob... to configure it.....maybe it will live again....

We have a couple of Shows. I *believe* you can either drop-in-on a Device, or on a Contact. e.g. a device is an Echo within your account, though it could be in a different country / building (tested, works fine).

A contact is a real person; we haven't allowed this for security/privacy reasons. I'm not surprised Amazon won't "ring" all devices when you call them, that's fairly advanced and niche functionality. I probably have 10 Alexa Echo devices, and I don't want them all to ring if someone tried to drop in on me!
