We recently got a Samsung TV that can record programs and pause live tv etc. (Samsung Q90 series)
Does anybody have any experience of using hard disks, any recommendations on models/types and any tips?

We currently have a Virgin box that records and is easy to set up for series recording but looking to get rid and just use Freesat/Freeview from the TV and try to replicate it.

You can plug anything in really but I would go for something with a quicker 7200 drive speed if you go mechanical or an SSD ideally.

I plugged a USB stick into my LG tv and it was a bit glitchy.
A generic SSD has worked excellently. I used a 500GB SSD as I had a spare one.

The recording software using freeview + is not ideal, certainly not as good as the youview box I have on another TV. Hopefully your Samsung TV will be better.

Thanks. I'm thinking of getting an SSD, I may even strip the disk from the Virgin box if we get to keep it after cancelling.
The TV instructions say a memory stick won't work, I'm guessing due to the file structure on them.

I have a Samsung TV and a memory stick does work, just needs to be formatted correctly. The main issue though is that if you don't have twin tuners you can only watch what you are recording, you can't watch one channel and record another. I do use it from time to time, but wouldn't miss it as catch up has most things nowadays.
