We used to have iPhone 7’s and my wife’s could never connect to Wi-Fi (we’re on Sky ) while outdoors. Fine at home, on a named Wi-Fi like a cafe and fine using my hotspot. It was annoying to say the least.

Well we’ve upgraded to 13’s and the problem is still exactly the same.

We’re on a sim only and on the same account.

I’m at a loss. I’m thinking it’s either the SIM card (she’s using the same card) or Sky somehow is blocking her from Wi-Fi access. I’ll probably give Sky a ring tomorrow but wondered if anyone had come across the same problem. Obviously I have done all the usual checks for not connecting but it seems more than coincidence that it’s happening on her new phone as well.

If it connects to the wi-fi at home and to a named wi-fi network when you're in a coffee shop, etc., then what other wi-fi could exist that you're trying to connect to? You're saying it won't connect to wi-fi when you're outside - do you mean mobile data as there wouldn't be any wi-fi as such when you're outdoors? Is mobile data turned on? If not, turn it on!

Oops. I meant mobile data.

Everything that should be turned on is turned on. With one phone you could maybe blame the hardware or software but not 2 phones

Have you got VPN switched on? That often blocks mobile data as it can’t run over that I think. I’m not a techie that’s just been my experience when I first set up a VPN on my iPhone.

If it’s carried over from one iPhone to the next, then you have two possible routes:

1. She has mobile data switched off in the phone’s settings. Have you looked through the settings compared with your own? Open the Settings app and click on Mobile Data. Go through the menus and compare.

2. The issue is at the network end. In which case this will need a call to her carrier to talk through. They can check the network parameters against her SIM. They will also be able to guide he through her phone to make sure that the APN settings are correct (these are found in Settings/Mobile Data/Mobile Data Network).

I used to have to call O2 and get them to ‘reset the APN’ quite regularly, although it’s been fine for some time now.

The APN settings are identical to my phone as are all the rest of the settings.

I’ll get her to phone Sky.

It may also be the specific app she is trying to use that has been blocked from mobile data usage.

What symbols are displayed at the top of the phone when she is out?

I am sooooo not an expert!

However, my iPhone (13) won't connect to most public wifi these days. I think it's the Office 360 email thing that's blocking it. 'Cannot verify server' messages 99% of the time it tries to connect. I have wifi off unless I'm at home.

did you migrate to the new phone or set up from scratch?

Reset Network Settings, buried in Settings/General. Try that....

Your issue has occured to me a few times, always when I am at Silverstone. The cannot connect to server constantly comes on the screen og my iphone 12 pro.. I don't think I have office 360 as an app though.

I don't have it as an app either. But I think it's my work email server thing.
