Long story but I've got something that is better on bigger screen when using the app than my current android phone.

Are <100 quid tablets really worth the hassle or are they likely to be throwaway in 12/18 months as running slowly etc?

I could only be using it for this in particular app, youtube, possible NF and web browsing.

Imo cheap android tablets are junk. You'll be better off buying a second hand iPad (Make sure it's one that's supported on the most recent iOS)

iPads are the king of tablets and I'm a Windows and Android phone user.

The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is beautiful though but you won't get that for £100!

Will the app run on an Amazon Fire tablet?

In that price range they are very difficult to beat.

If you want, I can try the app for you on mine ... pm me if you'd prefer.

I needed a proper 10" tablet last year.
Following advice on here I bought the Lenovo.
https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08WRCYD8M/r...

It hasn't got phone connectivity, but I don't need it.

It's a brilliant tablet, does everything I wanted and is faaaaaar better value than anything more expensive.

But it's not really £100 is it??

I have an amazon fire 10, it works fine. Does web browsing and email without any issues. Just debloat it when you get it, easy and simple to do. Its not stunningly fast, and I guess the screen is not the latest tech but it loads Pistonheads OK

Unless you buy a refurbished, the Fire 10 HD is not £100 either, cheapest is £149.99 (with ads), which is the same price as the Lenovo ..... actually the Lenovo is 99p cheaper.

The Lenovo is by far the better buy too, it has 64GB storage compared to 32GB of the Fire (64GB Fire is £189.99) and more importantly, the Lenovo has 4GB of RAM compared to the 3GB of the Fire HD.

But given the OP wants to spend < £100, that's irrelevant I guess ...

Amazon Fire 8 HD starts at £89.99.

Amazon Fire 7 is not HD, so is very cheap £49.99.

I've got both the Fire 8HD and a 7 ... I wouldn't recommend the 7 unless you want cheap as chips ..

Didn't know the current price, my fire 10 HD with adds was £89 in January. Just assumed that was the price. A quick debloat and no sign of adds.

They do have very good deals on their kit at times.

Cheers guys, I've actually seen the M10 and tempted, but it doesn't support Netflix in HD still even with the latest FHD version.

I'm not a tightarse just wondered if there was much in it between the cheaper Chinese type devices and brand names.

Not sure about a prime based on ads etc and the android situation.

It really pains me to say this. But this is correct.

I am an Android man through and through, you couldn't pay me enough to use an iPhone. And Macs can go suck my dead grandad's balls.

But having had a succession of Android tablets, I was recently forced into buying an iPad for a couple of apps that I needed that weren't supported on Android. And blimey. It's a revelation. The interface is still rubbish, but by god everything genuinely just works. It's slick, the battery lasts forever, the quality of the apps is just...better. The screen is amazing. And this is on a second-hand iPad 6 that cost me £150.

I hate that this is true. But it is just, objectively, a better product.

I've got a MBP so I'm a bit of a Gemini when it comes to Apple.

The app I'll use on the apple version actually has better functionality and options with the IOS app (at the moment) so maybe I'll hunt about for a 200-250 iPad.

To counter the apple love..

My apple devices have all become useless paperweights after a couple of years. The strategy is always the same. Make all the apps you like force you to upgrade to continue.
Make the upgrade require the latest ios.
Make the ipad vastly slow because it can't run the latest ios.
..making your several hundred pound tablet useless.

Counter that with the kindle:
89 quid.
A little bit st on day 1.
No more or less st 4 years later.

I also have kids, and if you drop an ipad trhe screen tends to go, but the pasticy kindle somehow bounces.

Don't think for a second the kindle will blow you away, but for 89 quid and 1 hour fiddling (sideload android store) you can do a lot worse and end up with pretty much everything you need from an intetnet browsing / let the kids play some games type of job.

I've still got my old Amazon fire 7 which I de-bloated and added google play services to a few years ago, never had a case on it, thrown around in the bottom of my bag. I only use it for plane and train rides, so I don't use the battery on my phone. I might flash a newer ROM on it soon though as Amazon are no longer updating it.

It's a bit sluggish but gets the job done.

To get Netflix in HD on a tablet or phone it must be Widevine L1 certified (DRM protection) The Amazon Fire HD10 is certified for it, download Fire Toolbox on to a PC, plug the tablet into it and you can debloat the Amazon crap/Ads etc from it/add the Playstore/Netflix/Disney+ etc - not great value at full price but it's decent value the couple of times a year they drop it to £90. I'd pay a bit extra and get a base 10" Samsung, my 2016 model is still going strong and to my amazement gets security updates a couple of times per year.

The reason Android is st on tablets is due to Google, in their ever infinite wisdom, decided that people wanted a phone and a laptop, not a half-way house tablet, and basically deprecated it and brought out Chrome OS on Chromebooks - Samsung has persevered with it because they need an iPad alternative but it's essentially the phone version skinned and there's not many apps optimised for tablet use, however Samsung & Google seem to have put their squabbles behind them and Google is actively working on Android 12L for larger screens (it's on the third or fourth beta currently) amidst rumours they'll be releasing a foldable later in the year/keep Samsung happy as they make the Tensor chipsets for Google Pixels...

Yep and it makes no sense at all as far as I can see. For the majority of users there's nothing they can't do on their phone. The reason they don't do everything on their phone is it's too small for lots of stuff. So is the answer Chrome OS, which came out without access to the Android App Store? Or Android for big screens? Rhetorical question.

Plus Google can't really compete in the laptop market anyway, because it's ChromeOS vs Windows, yet they could have taken significant market share if they'd sold it as "All the things you like about your phone, on the big screen."

The main thing I like about my Android tablet is that I can set it up exactly like my phone, same launcher, everything in the same place, access to all the same services, same controls for my media, home automation etc. Perfect.

Samsung DEX is great, but it should have been completely unnecessary and it does annoy me that lots of its design cues are lifted from Windows rather than trying to stay as close to Android as it can. Consistency should be the number 1 priority.

Bit more than you want to spend but half the price of an entry level iPad, this is the updated version of the one I have, £165 - has Widevine L1, 1920 x 1200 screen, SD card slot - the link says it's 4gb but it's not it's 3gb - absolutely fine for Netflix/Youtube/browsing and only £15 more than the Amazon 10HD with lockscreen ads. www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Galaxy-Android-Graphite-V...

If you install Android ADB tools on PC/Mac/Linux you can debloat the Samsung junk off it and get a bit more space/performance back - https://www.howtogeek.com/125769/how-to-install-an...

This is a list but it's for reference only, you might want to look for an updated list - https://r1.community.samsung.com/t5/others/how-to-...

(I picked mine up for £80 second hand 3ish years ago, only use it in bed for YT/light browsing/occasional nights away and it's been faultless - a real pity that Vanced Youtube got closed down by Google last week or you could have had ad-free Youtube as well...)

Seen a few A8's in the 150-180 range on fleabay.

Am I likely to hit issues with an EU version? Plug useless but I've got Samsung chargers already from previous Galaxy phones.
