i've lost the garage door opener for my apartment building in the city, it was a cheap looking thing with 2 buttons and the management company is saying they want over £100 for a replacement!

I was wondering about getting one on amazon and using a neighbours fob to program the frequency into it (if possible)

does anyone have any experience with this or recommendations?

Try your local roller / shutter company, they may have a compatible remote.

I know from experience they are usually about £20-30 each plus £30-40 call out / programming.

I got a spare Hormann Bisecur from ABi, arrived next day and took 30 secs to reprogram (although I had a working fob to use). £43 all in.

Have a look on this site - however - even though you may find one the same (same model / frequency etc.) it will likely still need coding to the system.

You could ask a neighbour to have a look at their remote - some have a bank of 'DIP' switches in the battery box, which are set to provide the correct code.

If you can get a look at a neighbours remote, there may also be some identifying branding on it.

Can you see/access the receiver/controller?

Check for branding and there is usually a ‘learn’ button or sequence you can follow and purchase any generic compatible fob.

A bit cheeky, but you could just give them a blank fob and play dumb if they come back to you after you have left. The horse may have bolted on this if you’ve already spoken to them about it.

yep, it has manual buttons you can press on it (from the inside) so maybe that could give me some clues!

https://www.erone.com/en/catalogue/multi-user-reci...

think it's this which states:

Frequency : 433,92 MHz.
Encoding : Keeloq® Hopping code
Modulation : ASK - FSK
Enclosure : IP30

There is a process to add a transmitter if the access code is still default 111111.

You're probably not supposed to mess with it and you could end up locking everyone in/out, which wouldn't be popular!

Looks like you might have to cough up. £100 is probably fair for a replacement fob and someone to come out and program it.

wouldn't getting one of these and learning from another remote work?

I already posted a link to a possible source for remotes.

And I note that they sell the exact brand (Erone) that the OP is looking for.

LINK to Erone remotes

Perhaps the OP seems intent on making their life extra difficult, I don't know...

Of course, any remote is likely to require coding, and coding methods vary, from DIP switches to soldered links and so on - but the OP might get lucky, who knows?

When we had security gates to the car park at our old apartment I bought an identical fob from eBay for £15 and programmed it in about ten seconds using another one.

This is all the management company are going to do and charge you £100. Actually in the end they ended up copying my fob as when they took over the contract the previous management company refused to give them the fobs.

One of these, what brand is your fob?

I had a look but wasn't aware of which brand it was at the time and there was so many on the site!

I've just purchased one and need the caretaker to program it now smile
