As per my other thread ( https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...) I have just got hold of a new graphics card but I'm having problems with the screen resolution...

Firstly, I don't have a proper monitor, I've been using an old LG TV (not HD) that's served me well for years. I previously had it set at 1920 x 1080 but I've had to buy an HDMI cable for this graphics card. I had just been using a VGA cable with a DVI adapter with my old one and had no issues, however, since connecting it with the HDMI cable the only usable option is the TV's native resolution of 1368 x 768. If I set it to 1920 x 1080 the quality is grainy. See photos below for reference, note the 'STOP' icon and how it's not even legible at 1920 x 1080.

1368 x 768-

1920 x 1080-

Not clued up on all this but I'm suspecting it's to do with not having an HD TV/Monitor. Any suggestions or fixes without spending more money?

You simply have to use the TV's native Res otherwise you end up with a pixelly mess.

I've never had an instance where running at other Res than native was optimal.

Run the native Res, then if you need smaller text, use Windows scaling feature.

If its not HD it wont run 1920 x 1080 as that is HD 1080p. Your old card was probably not detecting the TV and just running a generic monitor which you could try setting up but you may end up in mess if it doesn't work. Older LCD tv.s used to run the resolution yours is defaulting to as the setting for PC's.

There's lots of monitors on Gumtree which will give you a much better picture than your LG TV for not very much money. Search locally to you & I suspect you'll find a good few candidates for sale.

I will have a look for sure but in the meantime, and after extensive googling, I managed to find information about setting the HDMI input on the TV to 'PC'.

Had no idea there was various options but at least it's working for now.
