Folks

I have a 2009 E class. Doesn’t support audio Bluetooth other than for calls. I have an aftermarket Bluetooth dongle which uses the aux input.

Previously I had an Android phone which worked beautifully with the headset, putting itself automatically into a viewable display.

Now, I have an iPhone SE. there’s no equivalent app. More importantly, Spotify won’t recognise it for Car view.

Any ideas? Mainly want to just use Spotify but an app which would allow phone calls in a user friendly format would also be great:

Can you not just find the dongle in the Bluetooth menu on your phone and do it that way?

Sorry, you’ve lost me. I can’t get Spotify to recognise the dongle as something it should use CarPlay with, really annoying and odd.

What car play? The car doesn’t have it.

You pair the Bluetooth like a pair of headphones to the dongle and audio will work via aux.
You won’t have decent phone calls unless the dongle has a mic somewhere nearby, so pairing direct with the car is preferable for calls.

Do you mean the android phone had an “I’m being used in a car, I’ll go into a simple interface to make things easier for the user” mode?

In a nutshell, yes!
Calls work perfectly through MB Bluetooth.

I didn’t know that existed. Right, cool. I understand.

A quick read suggests android only? There’s a “car thing” option for iOS, but that’s additional hardware.

I may be completely wrong, I have a passenger to sort my music out.

Yep, it’s annoying there doesn’t seem to be an iPhone version of car view, but that would be fine if I could get Spotify to recognise the dongle! Might just install my old DAB/Bluetooth kit.

Spotify withdrew Car View a while ago. They know want you to buy Spotify Car Thing.

You’ve lost me again. What dongle does Spotify need to recognise.
The Bluetooth dongle is handled by the OS

Right, Spotify recognises all of my other car Bluetooth connections. But this one it won’t. It did on Android. I’ve tried all these options and it still doesn’t say “yes, that’s a car stereo, I’ll go into car mode”!

If it's any help to this thread, I use Spotify on an iPhone X paired to my car with a Connect2 bluetooth adaptor plugged into the back of the OEM stereo. Means i can take calls and use the car's steering wheel functions to skip track and change volume.

Also Spotify car view still works when it's paired.

I take it the people that still have Spotify Car Viewer haven't updated Spotify in ages?

I use Google Driving Assistant on my Android phone as the replacement for Spotify Car Viewer.
