Anyone know of a decent program that will allow me to text via a PC?

Currently I have Dell Connect on but it is next to useless, usually unable to connect to the phone.

I used to use PushBullet which is a mobile app and companion browser extension - pops notifications from your phone up on your desktop screen and enables you to answer.

WhatsApp doesn't do text (i.e. SMS) messages though. Which is what I presume the Op is asking for.

If you are talking about SMS then install Phone Link on your PC and phone - they are free and by Microsoft - Been using them for a few years across a couple of devices with no problems.

I used to be able to do this 20 years ago from Outlook with a plugin and a cable for my Nokia 3210.

Now the Windows built in Phone Link app is the best bet.

About 20 odd years ago (similar to above) there was a website where you could send (from memory) 3 free sms per day. Was very useful in its day!

There was wasn't there. And there was a time when you could log in to the Orange - remember them? - website and send SMS messages using your allowance and from your mobile number. I think it was Orange anyway.

The PC connected method I remember I could change the mobile number it appeared to come from, that was fun, though I can't remember if you then got the replies or not.

Ah yes, I forgot about that also! I was with Orange, who were bought out by Hutchinson Whampoa, who were bought by Mannesman, who were bought by Vodafone, who then somehow (i forget) became Orange again before rebranding to EE - or something like that! I still have my 'original' Orange mobile number from 1995.
