What is this dark dot in google search bar?

This dark dot appeared overnight in the google search bar on my home screen partly obscuring the "g" in google, any idea what it means? samsung android if that makes any difference.

You can turn it off. Can't remember the exact setting, but I believe it's in the menu of the Google app somewhere (from memory).
