Tablet with HDMI output

Does anyone know of a reasonably priced tablet (under 500GBP) that can output video to a TV via HDMI? Size 10 - 12 inches? Someone has previously suggested a Lenovo + USB-C to HDMI adapter, but the tablet would have to be capable of outputting video. The current Lenovo I have doesn't do that. Which is a shame, as it has a built-in stand and quality speaker.

Can you not use a chrome cast to send the picture to the dongle?

Used to have a Tesco Hudl which did had HDMI out.
Via a stupidly fragile connector.

I don't follow the market, but I'm aware that some cheap Android double-din car stereo head units have HDMI out.

Does your tablet have a USB-C port? Then it should be able to output video through that. A cheapish multi adaptor will give you the input+outputs. I have a couple of Kiwibird USB C to HDMI 4K adaptors. It looks like for £418 (£369+£49) an iPad 9 plus a Lightning to HDMI adaper will give you video & audio on HDMI:

Don't forget that both the hardware and software have to be capable of outputting their signal via HDMI/AirDisplay/etc.

Some apps forbid viewing on anything other than the tablet (thinking of TV/moving streaming apps mostly).

If your TV doesn't natively support wireless streaming already(most do in the last 5 years) then rather than a cable, I would use a chrome cast of a Firestick. Far easier, less faff and cheaper than a new tablet.

I have a Galaxy Tab S6, USB C to HDMI lead, works fine. I take it away with me, load it with downloaded films and plug into whatever tele is in the hotel, never had an issue. You'll be able to get one second hand well under budget, or a S7 probably.

As mentioned, my current tablet has a USB-C port, but this doesn't mean it can output video. The bigger Lenovo Yoga Tab 13 has HDMI, but it's input only. It can apparently output video via USB-C, so this would work with the appropriate adapter. This is too big though - I might as well use a laptop.

Thanks, but I'm aware of the hardware limitations. And I'll be using VLC, so no issues with software.

You don't need wifi for Chromecast - it has Guest mode that means you can connect directly to the Chromecast.

I used to do this but the ability to output hdmi from a tablet has largely been disabled by android. Can't remember why but I read about it a while ago. I have all the relevant adapters and whilst they used to work, they no longer do.

Interesting article here. Android kinda dropped MHL support in favour of WiFi casting,but Sammy tablets still support it.

It's a great tablet, I use it for note taking at work with the S Pen, light laptop duties with DEX and media viewing when away, paid 200 quid second hand about 12 months back. Comes in handy for much more than I realised I'd use it for.

Wouldn’t a £29.99 chromecast with google tv do the job?

You could use it on its own or cast to it from existing tablet?

According to Google, not all USB-C tablets output video. And I tried a USB - HDMI adapter (which I works with my phone) on my current tablet and it didn't work.

Surface Go 3? £369 for the base model and add the offical HDMI adaptor for another £35 brings you in nicely under budget.
