Hi all

What do PHers in the industry think is the best place to find IT jobs?

Looking to move on from what i'm doing and wondering where all the best jobs are advertised.

Have a look at my post here, it's the 6th one. Chap on Scoobynet was after similar info and I fished out all my old job links for him.

He ended up getting a job through Reed in about a week or so Good luck!

Another vote for jobserve here - I've just got a new contract through it. You can set it up to search with keywords - eg. C++ & Credit Risk - and it will mail you the results each day which is handy.

Not sure if it's still the same (I'm guessing so), but don't bother registering with Jobserve and Monster or any of the others... the agencies tend to trawl all of the main ones so the same jobs appear on both.

Jobserve worked for me...

Another tip: Make sure any online cvs contain keywords that will be picked up by agencies' searches...

I find applying for jobs on Jobserve a waste of time. Even if I have all the relevant skills and follow up with a phone call it hardly ever leads anywhere.

I've just placed keywords all over my CV and I let them come to me. You get more suitable jobs that way.

I've been trawling Jobserve all morning.

The data quality is appalling but its still the defacto standard for IT...

The data is provided by ... agencies. Whose staff, until yesterday, were selling double glazing and fitted kitchens. They know precisely nothing about IT. Including how to work their own PCs, which is why they lose your emails all the time, assuming they're not lying to you, which they also do, constantly. They only know how to do exact string matches on their databases, which is why you never get put forward for jobs which require BlogoScript 7.2, even though you actually helped develop BlogoScript 7.0. They have no idea what the requirements they're quoting mean, which is why some of the adverts are nonsensical. And why they're forever asking for meaningless manufacturers "qualifications", which come off the kind of roll that normally says "Now wash your hands". If there was any justice in the world, most of them would be wearing paper hats and asking if you wanted fries with that.

I never thought I'd come across a worse group of people than estate agents, but IT recruiters beat them hands down. And it makes no difference if you're buying or selling - I wouldn't trust any of them further than I could comfortably spit a rat.

Cynical? Moi?

Fantastic

I do agree in the main. I have my pet agent and hes been good to me but then hes also made an absolute fortune out of me at the same time. I tried to ask a question of another recruiter the other day to see if it was worth putting a CV in. He wouldnt even take my call without a CV, if I could have got past the vapid receptionist, I'd have torn strips off the upstart.

Now I'm moving from Analyst/Project Manager to Analyst/Architect its amazing to see the sheer variance in requirements in a fairly limited field. Most agencies arent at all helping with this either.

Its also nice getting over 100 results back from a local search rather than the 1 or 2 I am used to seeing Europe wide...
