I'm in the throws of scripting a Visio 2003 install. I've done all the business with the MST file and it works fine. Until you install it on a machine with Visio 2000 on. It will not install alongside it.

Is there a way to either get it to install alongside or script a visio 2000 uninstall? The manual 2000 uninstall requires the source files for some reason too.

Anyone done this successfully?

Could you not create an installation point for Visio 2k, and script in a reference to taht when required by the installation.

I believe that should do it?

Dead easy, just have to punch in the right cmd line switches.

As Pete say, Office 2k is a royal PITA when it comes to CD installed products, and I've found an installation point (whether licensed or not - I just don't care when it comes to this sort of problem) helps tredmendously...

Oh, and a tip with O2k3 products - never delete the installation files when asked - you'll get the same problem again when you do any form of updates etc.

Right, i've got an admin install now. I still can't script an uninstall though. I'm using the /uninstall switch and pointing to the standard.msi in install in and it keeps telling me that the "patch is not installed".

*sucks air through teeth*

You'se gonna suffer there then

You want to try and find out what Service Pack (SP) the office install (on the machine in question) is at.

Ensure that the admin install you have has the same SP slipstreamed into it - usually a piece of piss but a balls ache if all your machines are not all on the same SP level.

If they are not all the same level, you would want to set up different shares for the admin install SP levels, and audit each machine to find out the SP levels, and then go round doing them in 'order' as it were...

Like I said, a balls ache...

Good Luck!

Added to this, you could just get Group Policy to uninstall Visio 2k, and then reboot, and then install Visio 2k3?

Try that - save arsing about with scripts (to a certain extent)

Y'see, that's what's comfusing me. I've been testing so far on my test machines (surprisingly enough) and even if you install from the same admin install as you uninstall from, then it still tells you to feck off.

I have a feeling my documentation for this might start with "First, uninstall Visio 2000 if present, then run scriptyfred.cmd."

You forgot to add the first part:

Make strong coffee, then install etc...
